Does your home state affect your theming preference?

We live in a beautiful area of the Ozarks. Lots of trees, log cabins and lodges. Ft. Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge have never been at the top of our list. We've visited and enjoyed both resorts, but never stayed at either.

Sadly, our favorite places to stay were the Villas at the Disney Institute. They're gone now, so next visit we'll be at OKW.

Being from Chicago,I rather like the tropical theme resorts. I'm one that enjoys the beach look. Give me a lounge chair , pool, and kiwi smoothie any day. In a few days we will be at BCV,bring on the sailboat, and sandy beach look,can't wait.
Then we'll off to our Home resort, OKW, for more of the beachy look. Both of these resorts have my very favorite beach scene,(you guessed it, The Lighthouses). Unless Disney were to do a theme from the Mid-west, I can't relate.
Somehow, I can't picture a skyscaper themed resort, though.
Don't know how I would feel about that, LOL

Wilderness Lodge----NorthWest (Washington State)???

Planning our first trip to WDW I heard all the great reviews on the WL and was planning on staying there....but since it looks like a few lodges here in the NorthWest....we decided in Florida we want palm trees and the "tropical" theme so we went with the CBR....I know we should have picked the Poly.

This year it's the BoardWalk theming for us....If we want a Northwest Lodge feeling we could do it everyday here in Washington State.

Hmmmm.... choices, choices:

1) Buy a little cabin in the woods (Did anybody visualize a bunny hopping by?)

2) Remodel a room in the house to feel like a cabin, a retreat.

3) Buy into VWL.

Seriously considered all three and went with #3.

Well, the great (and very impoverished) State of California has a little bit of everything. Trees & Snow (Yosemite, Mt. Shasta, Big Bear, Big Sur). Sand & Surf (Newport, Malibu, San Diego, Mexico right there). Farming communities (The whole Central Valley). Desert Dunes (Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Palm Springs). We have Victorian/seafood in San Francisco and uber tech in Silicon Valley. We also have DISNEYLAND!!!

I say that the various resorts are stylized and "perfected" versions of the places they represent. I find something to like in most of them. None really remind me of where I live or vacation day to day so I don't get sick of them.

Absolutely! I'm from Ohio, and I refuse to stay at any resort with a Midwestern theme.

I partially agree with the original premise.

I think that the reason Disney succeeds is that they have built so many diverse resorts with great theming that appeal to a wide variety of people.

Personally, I don't think where I live has much bearing on which resorts appeal to me, but I haven't really thought about it too much.

I love POR, look forward to trying WL and am head over heels for GF.

I have no interest in Coronado Springs, Carribean Beach and (most of all) The Polynesian. But, my dislike for the Polynesian theming goes all the way back to childhood, I always loved the Contemporary and was bored by the theming of the Polynesian.

I'm from New England, but the Yacht Club and Beach Club don't turn me completely off (and I grew up spending my summers on the Maine coastline). I just see them as a sanitized (or fantisized) version of the real thing.

My Grandmother can't even stand the thought of the Wilderness Lodge, because she stayed in the real things many times years and years ago.

But that's the great thing about WDW, just about everybody can find something they like.

LOL. I agree with this sentiment.

But back to the original question...since I live in New Orleans, about a 20 minute drive from the French Quarter, Port Orleans holds absolutely no interest to me whatsoever.
