My high school wasn't on there, but I have to agree with tar heel that the criteria is faulty. Two of the schools listed in my state pay for their students to take AP tests, but my district didn't.

Moreover, my school encouraged students to take actual college classes (Concurrent enrollment) at OU, UCO, or any of the local community colleges more than they encouraged AP classes and tests. I think something like 30% of my graduating class had credit from OU or Oklahoma City Community college when they graduated from high school -- many of us had more than a semester's worth under our belts, too. Plus, the very advanced programs in our high schools (AEGIS Math and English, both extremely selective two year programs) weren't necessarily AP classes. The option to take the tests were always there, but few people did since it was just as easy (and cheaper) to take an advanced standing or CLEP test at whatever college they were attending.

I am happy to see so many southern and Florida schools on there! It makes me cry though, we had to leave Jacksonville due to job for DH and both of my older girls were in gifted classes there. We were "on track" for the #2 or#3 school!!! Note, 7of the top 10 are in the south!!! The schools we attend now are always saying how great they are but I could not find Naperville on the list at all, I will check again. I do agree that the criteria is not perfect, but all of the top schools on the list still deserve a pat on the back IMO!!

Not surprisingly, the schools from the "richest" towns in my home county were pretty high on the list.

I went to private school, so it didn't make it.

I looked at the way they judge the schools though, because I found it odd when some other local public schools here (that are NOT good schools by any means) also made the list. To me, a more telling statistic would be the average score on AP and/or IB tests by students taking the test. Schools could falsely inflate their numbers by requiring all students in an AP/IB class take the AP/IB exam. My school did not require that all students in those classes take the exam--it was your choice.

that settles it, I WANT TO MOVE TO FLORIDA!!!! is there a web site where you can look up where you can find where your school actually is ranked?? not too many from the PA area.....
