does your high school make the grade?

Yeah, but we're all the way down at 712.

And to think all we've been hearing is "our town is so great, our town is so advanced, IB tests, blah blah blah".

There are so many other schools from the Island ahead of ours.

Wow. NONE of the highschools in my area are on there.

5 schools in my county made the list, including the one my DS attends now.

My school is there at #522. Back when I went there (the mid-70's) I heard it was rated in the top 100.

Neat list. Our neighborhood school just barely missed the top 100, but the school just down the road is up there... maybe we should move a few blocks. :D

Several schools in my area made the list. My kids school was excluded because it is private and is way too competitive for this list. The main emphasis on this ranking system is AP courses which is an interesting way to rank. My son just finished taking two AP tests, passed one test last year (with a 5) and is taking three AP courses next year.

My school is #567. We actually have been looking at this list in several of my classes today. We beat the other high school in the Tustin district (#675) which is usually considered to be the "better" school. It was nice to see us ranked above them, even if it isn't exactly the best criteria to compare schools with.

I attended #353

Oh good! Our rival is #507. LOL

DH's didn't make it, but that's not surprising. That area has had its troubles lately.

MY HS is number 140! Pretty amazing. I was just talking to someone who had taught there last year and transfered to another school, she said the difference in the 2 was awesome, my school was bad! Her new school is # 55. DS went to one for his freshman year #721

61 Schools made the list from Virginia, I guess that is those tax dollars at work.

It's strange because so many Central Va. schools typically top the state on standardized tests, but only one was on this list. But schools that don't compare in Nova and Eastern Va. are on the list. I don't understand, maybe it has something to do with the way IB programs are operated in Richmond.

Joe, I noticed the same thing....no Godwin, Freeman, or Midlothian (which are good schools.)

My high school wasn't on there and neither is the one DD will attend next year.

Freeman, Hermitage, Godwin, Midlo, James River, and Atlee all rank ahead of most of the VA schools on this list. Weird.

This list is based on extremely faulty criteria. He measures only whether kids take the test, not how they do. Several schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg made the list -- one is #7. In that district, AP tests are free (school district pays) and over half the scores are under a 3. Now, I don't think that means very much. That says to me that either the instruction isn't very good or kids who are not ready for AP classes are taking them. The school that is # 7 is a good one, though -- it's dh's alma mater, too.
