My 5 year old maltipoo does. 20 years ago when my DH and I adopted a puppy, we never took care of his teeth. Why? Because we were young and stupid, didn't know any better. In our dog's older years his teeth and gums were SO bad. The vet even said he was too old to be put under for a cleaning. Other than his teeth, he was a very loved dog and was well taken care of. After he died, I swore the next dog we got we wouldn't make the same mistake with her teeth. I started brushing her teeth when she was a puppy regularly. There have been times where a week or so went by without a brushing, but I'm staying on top of it. She's had 2 dental cleanings in her life. When I last took her to the vet in August, the vet said her teeth are SO clean that a yearly cleaning wasn't necessary. He said it would ruin the enamel on her teeth. She's not crazy about me brushing, but does cooperate when I do it. What about your dog or dogs?

no :rotfl2:

ETA: shes spoiled, gets a daily dental chew and regular cleanings at the vet. But no, we tried from the very first day as a puppy and she made it VERY CLEAR she will NOT have a toothbrush in her mouth TYVM :rotfl2:

They are not fans, but I can usually manage to get at least some of their teeth brushed when I try. They get Greenies more often.

We've only had one dog with tooth issues and that was likely poor genetics (she was a pet store puppy, we didn't know how bad they were back in 1992).

Glad to know my Lab is not the only weird one ! Tried the teeth brushing no go - I have to do ear washing every other week - it’s a battle to say the least you would think I was murdering him! he carries on like a little soccer player and I haven’t even touched him🤣🤣🤣 nail trimming OMG heavily sedated and it still takes four people and he howls like your hacking off his paws 🙄🙄🙄 I did everything you were supposed to do played with his feet exposed him to everything - this dog has issues ! He’ll take a bath but only in the tub he does not like the hose matter fact he scared to death of it - but don’t try and dry off unless you wanna like you know lose fingers because he thinks it’s a tug-of-war with the towels he’s not mean there’s not a mean bone in his body - as for brushing him he loves it but with that being said - there is a special routine that must be followed I have to do it outside because the hair is just so much but he must have one brush in his mouth at all times so he can chew on it you have to chase him around and then you can only brush certain areas then tell him how cute he is while you’re doing it we’re slowly making progress I’m gaining more areas
So I’m slowly gaining progress on him but the nails I think will be a lifelong hassle which is such a shame since he needs some trimmed about every four weeks
So I gave up on the teeth he just wants to chew on the toothbrushes anyway and play with the water I gave him a dental chew ones he chewed it half and choked on it again I don’t think the dogs right in the head 🤣🤣😳😳 good thing I like him so much❤️❤️❤️

Yep. Every night. He still needs dental cleanings every 12-18 months, but he would need them every 6 if I didn’t brush all the time. He’s a tartar factory! Thankfully I’m on top of it.

We have a 6 month old and 11 month old Boston Terriers The older one doesn’t mind having his teeth brushed but don’t touch his nails. The younger one is the opposite. We try the best we can with him but it’s a struggle.

A lab afraid of a hose?? OMG😂😂😂😂 He sounds SO adorable and reminds me of my mom's yellow lab from many years ago who was afraid of mice. I don't he minded the hose, but he was a big baby.

I have never tried to brush our dog's teeth... I am assuming she gets cleanings when the vet feels necessary, her teeth are very white.

I have attempted to brush the cats' teeth... it has never worked out well for me.

Let me? He couldn’t make me. :crazy2: I’m fairly new to having a dog in the household (not by choice) and I had no clue this was even a thing. I’m going to have to ask around amongst my pet-loving friends to see if they actually do this.
