small talk with you, other then "hows it going"

yes, and she makes me feel like Im her favorite patient. I bet she real nice to everyone but she has literally saved me from bad things that were real close to happening and I think she takes pride when Im doing real well

My GP a bit of small talk, which is fine by me. When I have needed to talk to him, he's been there. Most of my other doctors are pleasant but no chit-chat, which is also fine.

thats how I feel, but I do feel like I have a special bond with GP

Not so much with my GP. He's very nice and talks some but pretty much sticks to the exam. My chiropractor on the other hand, is a very wonderful man. I have been a patient for many years and we are on a first name basis. He knows both DH & I and talks about all different subjects with us, but mostly our families and travel.

Mine doesn't make small talk. He doesn't really have a personality. I've not been happy with him (as a doctor) for awhile.

The only dr that I really can chit chat with is my neurologist. He's also the one who shouldn't be spending his day making small talk. If you aren't his first appointment of the day, you will be waiting a while to see him. I only had a 3:30 appt and didn't see him until after 6.

Is it because you were sick? I felt that way with my OB when pregnant with DS and 5 subsequent miscarriages. He was always making me feel as though I was his only patient.

That is a very good reason to feel that way. Congrats to beating it!!!!

That's WONDERFUL! she's a great dr and friend it sounds like. It's great to have a dr you can really trust.

My ob/gyn and I chat about our kids. Her's are a few years older than my oldest so she asks about mine and she's shared her experiences with high schools and colleges with her kids. I've been seeing her since I was 19 and she was my dr with both my pregnancies.

I usually see a PA for regular stuff. He's chatty, but it's random and not stuff he should be sharing my last couple of visits, like about other patients or his opinions about some groups of people. I really need to find a new GP office, but I go in maybe once a year and it's such a hassle to get in somewhere new.

This is SO common - one must draw the conclusion that most doctors simply don't have enough time to be "nice" and the "nice" ones have lousy time-management skills. :p My GP and I really get each other; we could spend quite a while kibitzing back and forth. But it just feels wrong knowing how many people are waiting, and for that matter, how long I waited myself.

No. My MD reads her questions off a list on an iPad and only makes eye contact sporadically. If I could get a recommendation for a new MD, I would be there in a flash.

I agree, I should be more aware of the time when I'm with him. He's just so weird and quirky that I really, really enjoy hanging out with him at my appointments. When I was doing my infusions in May, he ended up staying for an hour telling me all about the Russian migration into Germany after the Chernobyl incident. At least, I think that was the story..I kinda zoned out after a few minutes LOL

plus, I figure you need a neurologist, you're entitled to a few extra minutes.

My doctor found out I work in law enforcement and he told me he was once the county coroner for about 10 years but then decided he wanted to work with the living instead of the dead. It was a very odd conversation... haven't sent him since.

Some.
DD's retinal specialist isn't what I'd call "chatty" since there are always lots of patients waiting, BUT he always remembers details I wouldn't expect him to, like what college she is attending, etc. We really like him. He has gone out of his way to make appts for her since she started college (4.5 hours from his office) and when she's in a treatment phase, she has to go back and forth at least monthly. DD refuses to try to find a doctor closer to her school and I can't really blame her.
Our GP is pretty friendly and mellow. It's a small office so rarely are there waits once you have scheduled an appt, which allows a bit more time for chit chat and follow-up questions.

My GP is very friendly. She always asked me how school was going before I retired. She also asks about if I've been back to WDW recently! Several years ago I had mentioned that I was going to WDW and she said she was also going for the the first time and was worried about her son who is on the autism spectrum. I was able to give her some tips which she later said were helpful and that they had had a successful trip.
