As a school bus driver, I was suprised to learn that all the
high schools in my town have vending machines selling pop/soda
and candy at anytime. They do not sell gum but all kinds of
chocolate and chips-non nutrative items. A previous post had
parents of a 15 yo worried about her drinking coffee due to the
caffeine. Are our schools the only ones selling this stuff? The pop
sold at our high schools is Pepsi/Mountain Dew/Dr. Pepper and
they have cans of sweetened iced tea as well as those fake juice
and lemonades. One high school finally broke down and got a
water bottle machine-it is always empty, probably the teachers-lol!

They have vending machines, but no soda - yet. Just Gatorade type drinks. But I'm sure that might change as more and more high schools in our area are getting contracts with Coke and Pepsi. "Pouring rights" benefits or something.

Yep! In the highschools, they sure do.

In my dd's middle school, they have juice and water machines.

High schools yes.
Middle and Elementary schools no except in teachers' lounge

Our elementary has Pepsi products. 2 machines are in the main hallway and on all day. The students are told not to use them until after school but many times teachers will have parties or read-ins and tell the kids to bring money to buy themselves "something" to drink. This year both of my kids will be at the middle school and I know they have not only pop machines but also candy vending machines near the pool. Not sure if they are on during the school day or not though. At lunch I know they can get junkfood in the ala carte line. :(

As of last year the vending machines at my DD's Middle School had their soda replaced with juice, gatoraide, and water. The Snack Machine now has Baked chips, pretzels, granola bars and pop tarts. No more candy bars and fried chips. Its a step in the right direction but could still use some improvement.
