Does your child's school do BMI screenings?

I think that most schools do routine vision and hearing screenings, correct me if I'm wrong in this. Anyway, these screenings are optional and if a parent wants their child/children to have them or not have them, we have to sign a form.

As of this school year, a new screening has been added to the list, BMI (body mass index). I guess this is being included because of concerns for children that are overweight and also underweight. There is also a scoliosis screening for 7th graders.

I dont think our school does it but I opted out of ALL screenings of any type. I do not need the school checking my child for any of that. She goes to an eye Dr every year, gets physicals and blood work and hearing tests every year at the Dr and goes tothe dentist twice a year..I don't need to school butting into that area. I think schools have FAR to much to say in the medical area for kids. I send them in forms from the Dr stating that she has had her yearly exams and does not need them repeated.

I wouldn't have a problem with it...If parents aren't going to take care of their kids, then schools have a responsiblity to at least alert parents to a problem..although this one is usually evident. Overweight kids is an issue that just pushes my hot button, actually, so I hope schools do start doing this.

I WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT! Just like I have an issue with the Health Teacher making us run the 12 minute cooper test. That's no one's business but yours. I know I'm over weight I've been battling it since I was 8, I don't need some school nurse or health teacher telling me that I'm bigger than I should be

I always hated the mile run tests,especially during allergy season(guess what I was forced to run and carried my tissues the whole time)

No, I haven't heard them doing that at my kids' schools. That's kinda interestingly strange.
