Yep, Dd is 5 and has a TV in her room. I couldn't handle fighting over watching Sponge Bob or whatever is on the Nick.........

No tv in any bedrooms (DDs are 20 and 22). No computers in the bedrooms either until each DD got a laptop as a HS graduation gift from their grandmother.

We have a large plasma tv in our family room and a 13" flat panel tv in the kitchen.

You can watch tv shows on the computer.. DD and I watch desperate housewives together on mine :)

No. We have 3 DDs -- ages 6 and 4 (twins). No TVs allowed in the bedroom until age 12.

yes. For those that don't allow it can I ask why?

We don't have TV's or computers in any of the bedrooms in our home. We have a TV in the family room, and one in the office (hooked up to the Playstation) along with the computer. To me, two TV's in one house is plenty! We read before bed, plus I can keep a closer eye on what they watch if the TV's are in the family areas. (Sleep studies have actually shown that TV just before bed can keep you from having a good night's sleep!) Anyway, that's just my own opinion. . .to each his/her own!!:thumbsup2

Angel, I don't allow it because my older son has OCD. If he stirs at all in the night, he feels he HAS to get up to watch TV, play his DS or do anything other than go back to sleep.

If not for that, I probably would have TVs in both rooms. The way the TVs are in our house right now, either my DH or I would wake as soon as we heard them turned on. Keeps my OCD boy in check. My younger son realizes that it'd be bad for his brother, so he's okay with not having one in his room. Besides, he's the one who *really* likes his sleep, so I think he'd be seriously annoyed if someone woke him up at 5am!

Thank you both for your replies, they both make sense. I guess with me not being a real tv watcher, and my DD is older, I just was thinking why not. But you both have really valid points. Thanks for the calm responses.

I voted yes for when I was growing up....I bribed my parents into buying me a color tv if I got all As in math in 4th grade.....it worked.....however you have to understand that I believe the only tvs in the house at the time were b/w (one in the kitchen and maybe one in my parents bedroom)....then they bought me one....it was too large for my room so that went downstairs into the playroom/den and they bought me a smaller set that lasted well into the late 80s/early 90s.....one of the first Sony trinitron sets....however the rules my parents had were no tv during the week although I would be able to watch some around dinner on the family set but not my own till I got into my last year of high school or so....the rule was kind of relaxed by then and I wasn't restricted with my tv viewing as much....of course there was no cable back then.....now although we have no kids....we do not have a tv in our bedroom because there's no cable hookup in there....we have cable in our kitchen, my DHs den, and my scrapbook room....I'd love to have a tv with cable either in our living room or back in our bedroom because I'm getting tired of watching at the kitchen table and not being able to really relax while watching.....be nice to lie on the sofa or bed and watch....maybe one of these days.....I have a question for the ones whose kids are older i think there was a response where the kids were 20 and 22 yrs old....if they bought their own sets....would you stop them from having them in their bedroom even if they are adults.

yes, my son has one in his room. I guess it's my fault. I need one in order to fall asleep at night.

I voted yes. My 14y/o and 4y/o have one. They're never in their rooms to watch it much though. We usually congregate in the family room when we watch tv.

DS is a freshman in college and for the first time, has a TV in his bedroom/dorm room. Other DS is a high school senior and does not have a TV, but has a computer.

My kids don't have a tv in their room. Why? We have an extra tv in our master, so there's an alternative if one person wants to watch something else. My kids also watch too much television/videos as it is (and we don't even have cable). After all, they have to do something while I'm on the DIS. :) :) :)

If kids have tv's in their room, how do you "limit" what hours they watch tv? I understand why someone might need to put a 2nd tv in a kid's room if there's no other place in the house to put one.

For those that don't allow it can I ask why?

I make a lot of parenting mistakes, but I don't feel like my kids are missing anything by not having a tv in their room. And why do kids NEED a tv in their room?

Both our children have TVs in their bedroom and also have computers. We have parental blocks on our daughters computer as she on 8. Our son is in medical school so is home only rarely, but he always had TV and computer when he was growing up.

so I dont have to watch alvin and the chipmunks over and over again downstairs? :confused3

Our DD's have a TV in thier room. It is hooked to cable, DVD, and Video Game system.
They are limited to amount of time they use it and can only use it if all responsibilities are fulfilled.
Never allowed to watch it to fall asleep, when bedtime comes.. everything off.
They use it mostly when they have friends over and want some "teen time" and when we send them upstairs because we need some "adult time".

DD7 and DS6 both have TV's in their rooms. When they were 1 and 2, we lived in a condo and we DS was colic, so I had the pleasure of sleeping in the living room (or in DS's room, if you can call that sleep), while DD slept w/ DH and she got used to the TV.

I always thought I'd never put one in their rooms, but like others have said I just didnt' want kiddie shows on in the family room.

I think they are pretty well adjusted kids. :goodvibes

Nope and they won't. We have 4 tv's as it is, I'm not buying anymore!;) They both spend way more time on their computers than watching tv anyway, it would seem like a waste of money to me. I'd rather upgrade their computers than buy them individual tv's. They have a play room with a tv and 2 computers.

Yes, they do. My son is 11 and my daughter is 9, they both have had tv's since they were 4. They both have DirecTV hooked up to it with DVD players and they both have laptops in their rooms. They both also have a Wii in their rooms.

No they don't. We have satellite and so there is no hookup in their bedrooms. We do have 4 TVs through the house and the kids have a computer in the den to use (they are only 10, 8 and 5) so I can monitor online usage. We also have a game system in the basement. Sometimes they say they would like a TV, but I like it this way. They don't really have space in their rooms anyway.. messy things.
