Does your 12yo get her eyebrows waxed?

My friend and I were talking and she mentioned in conversation that her 12yo got her eyebrows waxed, and has been having this done for sometime. Since my oldest is 5, I'm not sure if this is common these days? For some reason she just seems kindof young to be regularly getting her eyebrows waxed. And its not like she has huge eyebrows (and even if she did, to me it wouldn't matter). I don't even want to get my eyebrows waxed (ouch!). Anyway, it that common at that age to have done?

My 16 year old just started having hers done. I would however, let my 12 year old have them done rather than have her go at them herself.

I actually asked my aesthitician this and she said it is not that uncommon in girls that are of particular "hairy" hair-itage (pun intended :sunny: ). However, she will not "shape" eyebrows, she will just eliminate any thick hair like on the bridge of the nose, or if it is growing rampant on the forehead. She also does some girls' backs that have lots of fine dark hair on their bodies. It is purely to get rid of the hairy monster look for these girls.

I wax my niece 10 & one of my friends DD since she was 9 but only about twice a year & just the middle.

I was shocked to learn that my oldest DS had his eyebrows waxed when he gets his hair cut! He told me he hated his "unibrow" and that was the easiest way to take care of it. He also told me that many, many guys he knew did the same thing. I told youngest DS about it and he started having it done @about 14 yrs old. DD has always groomed her own (plucks them with tweezers), but I wouldn't have a problem with a 12 year old wanting to have her eyebrows waxed if it was bothersome to her. Appearance is everything to some young girls and eyebrow waxing isn't that big an issue to me. Some may disagree, so you just have to make that call based on your own preferences for your child.

I was thirteen. I had some bushy eyebrows. I was happy to have them fixed. They weren't shaped. They just took the middle off and a little off the bottum. I started shaving my legs too. I was so harry, I was getting teased and it made me feel much better. :chewy: to :)

I would have no problem with it. As a matter of fact, I cringe when I see girls 11 and up with hairy legs or unruly eyebrows. Life is hard enough without adding something else on for kids to make fun of. I have 3 sons and my oldest is 14 and has a unibrow and gets the middle waxed from time to time with haircuts.

I will take DD and DS to get theirs done around that age. They both inherited my eyebrow (yes, one!) LOL!

My DD11 needs hers done bad. I will not make her, but she knows she has the option. She shaves and she does want it done but is just scared of the pain.

DD started having hers done around the age of 12. Her stepmom took her at dd's request and with my permission. I've always just used tweezers myself so I never would have thought of it. DD had seen some girls at school go overboard with the tweezers so really liked the idea of having them waxed instead.

I would let my daughter get her eyebrows waxed at 12.

I was very hairy at an early age (still am! But I have to wax/shave everyday to fix that!) and I know how embarassing it is to have a unibrow. My mom worked at a Dermatology office where they also did facials/waxing and she wouldn't get them shaped, just waxed down the middle to make two.

I don't see any problem with it at all.

DD is 14 and has very light eyebrows like me, but if she wanted it done, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Heck, I'm getting to the age where I think I am going to have to wax my chin LOL

My hair dresser (who waxes my eyebrows) has a niece about that age. Right now she's about 12 and she only pluck her eyebrows. She's hoping that will keep her happy for a few more years. She doesn't want her to start waxing this early.

I personally get my eyebrows, lip and legs waxed. (I had to get the Italian genes not the Irish. :sad2: My hair is dark so where on normal people you wouldn't see it on me it stands out.) I started right before college. I wish I had started when I was about 16 but I wouldn't have started any earlier.

I'm planning to take my older dd - maybe before she's 12. Unfortunately she has a horrible unibrow that's rather dark and thick. She comes with me when I get my brows done and we talk about what's happening, why I do it, etc. When/if she notices her on her own and feels uncomfortable I'll take her to have it done.

It's pretty common, whether girls are hairy or not. When I was in middle school (I'm 19 now) the "in" look was the really thin eyebrows. Actually that was the ''in'' look straight through high school.
I, however, am not a fan of the pain for beauty concept. I have very bushy eyebrows, and have never touched them with wax or tweezers. I am in the minority though. I don't have a unibrow though. If I did, then I might reconsider

I starting waxing around 14, despite being Irish, I have PCOS, so hair removal is a necessity.

My 12 year old daughter, who inherited her eyebrows from her father's side of the family unfortunately, has had them waxed once or twice.

If it weren't for genetics, we probably would have had her wait. She got in a bad habit of plucking her own for a while and nearly plucked herself clean. We had to put a stop to that.

Paying for a 12 year old to have her eyebrows waxed? :rotfl2:

People must sit up nights thinking of random ways to squander money.

Yeah, we do. My DD12 has her eyebrows waxed, teen facials, lower legs waxed, hair highlighted, pedicures. We give plenty of $$ to charity, why not spend some on our only child. Heck you should see the Swarovski Crystal collar my little dog wears and the Burberry Coat, etc. As long as I'm investing and saving enough for a great retirement and giving to charity I figure it's OK to spend whatever I want on extras.
