Does WDW overbook rooms?

I have a question about the FL law that says you can't force guests to leave if they want to stay past their reservation. Is asking if your room is available a couple more nights treated the same way as demanding to stay? Not knowing about this law, we have asked a couple of times at the Polynesian if we could extend our stay in the same room. If they had said no, we would have been fine with that, but they said yes.

Now I am wondering if we might have caused a problem for the next guest because we were in a wheelchair accessible room (by necessity). I know how awful it is to get to a hotel and find out they've given away the wheelchair room we booked and desperately need! I would hate to cause that problem for someone else! So, would they have told us they needed that room, given that we asked and didn't demand?
