My 3 year old has strep throat right now. We leave next Tue - Oct 5 for WDW. If any of the rest of us get it , do they have a doctor there? Or is there an urgent care clinic nearby? TIA

Disney does not have any doctors, but you have several outside options:

There are several Centra Cares nearby, and they offer free transportation to Disney Resort guests. (407) 239-6463

Centra Care also offers in room care 407-238-2000

Doctors On Call 407-399-3627

Also, if you need a prescription filled, Turner Drugs will deliver to Disney hotels (407) 828-8125

Thanks for the info Stacy. I searched for Urgent Care Clinics and also looked on the CentraCare website. Doe anyone know which one of these would be closer to us? We are staying 3 nights Poly and 3 nights CR

Buena Vista Urgent Care
8216 World Center Dr
Orlando

or

Lake Buena Vista Centra Care
12500 Apopka Vineland Rd
(across form Disny Crossroads)

Thanks again for the info. I am filing this away "just in case"!

I read about a group of doctors on the dis called After Hours Pediatrics. I don't remember the details, but I wrote down their numbers and addresses for our August trip. They have a website at www. AFTERHOURSPEDIATRICS.com You can do a search on Disney for Families forum. You will find info there, also.

They have three locations near WDW and sound like a good group.

My kids ALWAYS get sick at the World, so I figured this info would come in handy. Luckily this time it was something we could manage with immodium......

Have a great trip - stay (get) healthy!!:earsgirl:

Both of these Centra Cares are very close to Disney.

Near Crossroads Shopping Center & Hotel Plaza Blvd., Lake Buena Vista Centra Care, 12500 South Apopka-Vineland Road - (407) 934-2273
Weekdays 8am-midnight
Weekends 8am-8pm

Near Disney Main Gate and Splendid China, Formosa Gardens Centra Care, 7848 West 192 -
(407) 397-7032
Weekdays 8am-8pm
Weekends 8am-5pm

The Centra Care main number (407) 239-6463, they would be able to tell you which one is closest.

Here is a vote for After Hours. ::yes::

In June on our first trip to WDW, we were eating dinner at Chef Mickeys, and 2 year old DS was not eating and was very fussy. I felt the poor little guys head and he was running a fever. I took him out of the restaurant to wait outside for DH and DD to finish eating. A few moments later I turned to see DS running, trip and as I went airborne to catch his fall, he smacked his face on the wrought iron end of a bench. I grabbed him a split second too late . He busted open his lip and bled like crazy! :scared: Paramedics were called, could really do nothing for a split lip, and since the bleeding had stopped and DS stopped crying, they and the Contemporary manager referred us to the nearest After Hours. The staff at the clinic we went to were wonderful and very attentive. The Contemporary manager had called ahead so they were waiting for us.

After a couple of stitches and a trip to the corner CVS for antibiotics for a new found ear infection, we were back to our Disney vacation. He was a trooper and we ended up having a wonderful time.

We used Docs On Call in 2003 and they were great! The doctor came right to our resort, gave DGS his first dose of medicine, and within hours, Turner Drugs delivered the remainder of the prescription. I would not hesitate to use them again.

We had a very bad day at Celebration ER earlier that week, and I will do anything to avoid going there in the future, unless absolutely necessary.

Good luck! Hope you all stay well!

We used Docs on Call too when DD came down with strep during our trip. It was well worth the extra cost because we didn't have to leave the hotel room and hunt down a clinic. No lines to wait in and no sick people to hang with! The doctor we got was wonderful. He spent about an hour in our room talking to us and making DD feel comfortable. He can't do strep tests in the room but said that is what he thought she had. I agreed and he called in an script for anibiotics and had them delivered to the resort. You have to pay up front with cash or credit cards. We used a CC and he gave us a receipt which we turned into our insurance. The entire bill was reimbursed to us, I believe it was around $200 for everything. I like knowing this so I will know who to talk in case someone gets sick again. Even if unsurance doesn't reimburse us it will still be worth not having to leave the comfort of your room.

I've used Centra Care near Crossroads/Hotel Plaza a couple of times. While we've had a rental car, WDW does provide transportaion to/from there for their guests. Our insurance was accepted so I only had our co-pay.

We also used the Walgreen's just the other side of I-4 off 536 (535?? - whatever that road between WDW and Crossroads is). Our Rx insurance was filed automatically - VERY nice surprise to get a check shortly after our return home.

Thanks so much everybody. I see we have several options. I'm printing this off and putting it in my planner - here's hoping we don't need it!!!
