Does VMK effect park experiences?

ive never seen the 2 swords one, might be a dlr exclusive, or ive seen it but have not heard of it bu the name, i know the baby donald head, bc i have one lol, and i got the hotel key and i dont got wendys or mickeys bc im not fans of them.

I love the Peter Pan movie so I at least had to have one peter pan character, I forgot to trade off my Mickey pin (came standard with the lanyard I bought) so I am stuck with that, but I saw one online that I really want and it is the Cheshire cat with a mad hatter hat and says 2006 on it

I haven't found any nightmare before x-mas pins at DLR, they were so popular, I was very flustered

If i were in the parks and anyone looked at my pins the wrong way.. I'd have to put the hurt on them.. They would have to drag me out kicking and screaming before anyone but me touches my pins.. lol. It's different for me because i've scoured eBay for rare and cool pins to add to my collection and i would trade very very few of my pins period. I wouldn't trade any to just some random kid on the street who will chuck his pin at the wall when he gets back to the hotel from a long day in the parks and get's what he wants by blocking other people's way. I'm soory, but i'm awfully attahed to my pin collection lol

I just got back from the parks and got my vmk gold pirate pin hook up! :thumbsup2

I opened a pack to find it, so they forced me to buy two. :rolleyes1

The next thing worse to spoiled kids expecting their way, is the high and mighty CM who thinks you'd trade off your pride and joy if they had their loot in hand. I've met a handfull of CMs who would die for the colored vmk pin. When I go on a pin adventure, I wear this executive looking WDW shirt I got, a blue lanyard, and normally some type of Disney head gear. I guess I'm what you'd call a "Oops I thought you work here" junkie. And it would easily explain why I get approached pretty often, more by CMs than guests.

My pride and joy:

Fastpass Set
Tiki Dudes Set
"Duck Tape" Goofy & Donald (combining pins)
"Friends" Dumbo pin (Ty BFF ;) )
Huge Sulley head
VMK Pin
eBay auctions Ariel

FP and tiki's are sets of four, and I was lucky enough to have Scoop on Main Street help me complete the tikis! I've met many of you gamers out there by simply flashing the VMK pin. :thumbsup2

Todays loot:

VMK Dale
VMK Pluto
VMK Goofy
VMK Medallion

Wow, Ranch, sounds like you're quite the collector! I've started, but I just don't have much money to spend on pins. I don't even know how I'm going to swing the $56 for 4 box sets of VMK pins, much less all the others I'll have to buy to finish the set. :sad1: I haven't traded yet, since I absolutely adore all of my pins except one, and I sort of adore that one, too. Oh, well, I guess having duplicates will be a start to pin trading maybe.

It's wild to think ratios when dealing with real life and virtual life. Like:

1 guest to your room could represent 25-50 going to IRL WDW

1 bad trader IRL could represent 25-50 IVL.

ok wait.. that makes no sense..

Why, oh why don't I live near one of the parks! I bought a few pins while in DLR back in 2003, and I really love them (they're Disney Princess of course!). I only wish there was some place I could buy the pins; I haven't checked the Disney store yet because its quite far away from where I live. Maybe I should check next time I'm there.

Many of you know I HATE trading in VMK. I typically only trade when I absolutely have to, for reasons like I missed a week because I was sick or there's a new park exclusive item out. I enjoy trading with fellow DISers, but Heaven help me I hate being subjected to trading with random people in the game when I'm the one in search of something. Which is why I usually take the approach of "If I can't work out a trade here or on another site, the trade ain't getting done." :rotfl2:

Needless to say, I don't trade pins in real life. I've seen and heard one too many horror stories about fellow park guests and even CMs, and I don't like to mess around with anything that takes up valuable ride, shopping, and eating time. :rotfl: If I see a pin I like in a store, I buy it. If I see one I like on someone else's lanyard I think "Hmm, that's nice. Lucky them" and go on my merry way. Trading is just not for me. I don't even wear a lanyard with pins to the park because 1. I'm afraid I'll lose them and 2. I don't want anyone demanding I trade with them. I have maybe 30 pins (really started collecting in 2005), and none are duplicates and none are for trade. Maybe half of them are LEs. I dunno, I suppose I just see pins as something way too expensive to buy extras of for trading. Pin Traders in DTD has left me nearly broke the last 2 trips as it is without adding on needing to buy extras for trading. ;)

We've been pin trading at WDW for years now and yes, this has happened to us before. We actually don't trade with other vistors, we only trade with CMs. Certain times of the year you can fine some really interesting and rare pins through them. Anyway, I've had numerous people over the years, both adults and children see the pins I have and rush over to me with what looks like foam in their mouths and tell me they want a particular pin. My answer is always a polite "no, thank you. I am not trading". I have had a few very persistent people, but most have been nice. There have been a couple of times where there has been a rude child approach me and act like the child you mentioned. Regardless of whether you are dealing with a child or adult, they still need to learn to be polite and I refuse to reward bratty behaviour by giving them what they want.

I don't collect pins, but I do own the colored VMK pin as well. To be honest, I am afraid to wear it in case it gets lost!

As for the new pins, I called and tried to order some, only to be told I had to wait until the 14th. I sent the link about the pins to my friend RiceOwl and he called and they sold him pins yesterday! I think I got a clueless cast member!

LOL.. I'm not too worried about losing any, any that have sentimental (sp?) value I put a alan-wrench locking back on them.

I'm more worried about ruining them. I noticed yesterday one of my tiki dudes has paint chipped out in some spots. :(

I met this boy in VMK central yesterday and man.. what a piece of work.. lets just say.. he was a couple tacos short of a value combo. I must have said about three times, "Sorry buddy, I don't believe you, nor do I care" after he'd brag he had playing for a year, and yet had no clue how or where to get teleport magic. How about in this very building there smart guy!

and he had no clue who Ranch was.

A year.. yeah right!

:rotfl2: Okay this just made me laugh! LOL!

I can just see there being people like that in the WDW Central Plaza...lol.

I was in the VMK central this past summer and there were these two boys who were obviously die-hard VMK fans. They ganged up on this poor person who was minding her own business on one of the "working" computers and told her she was doing everything wrong. She was trading with someone (I saw it on her screen) and she must have been three times these boys' age! After they startled her, they left and began talking about her -- I am thinking there a few boys in this world who need to find a new hobby! :rotfl:

Super LOL, i've already met you three of four times in my year plus of playing vmk. Well back on topic, I'm a die hard pin collector, but I keep all my pins hidden. Therefore if i want a pin I have to dig around for one, but it' worth it not to have to deal with other people.
P.S. Some pin collectors scare me

I actually laughed out loud! Never heard that expression before, but I plan on using it often!

I've been a pin collector for many years, now. My sickness....er...addiction...
er....hobby started when The Disney Store started having their
own Millennium pin collection with a release every week. (Bought the pin book
and every stinkin' pin, thankyouverymuch!)

And when I was at WDW during the neverending Millennium Celebration, I
began collecting those theme park pins. And so it began.

That being said, while I haven't had a child DEMAND that I trade them my
pins, I have had them thoroughly dismiss me like yesterday's garbage when
they glanced at my lanyard and decided my pins weren't good enough for him/her.
I could hear the "Go away, you peasant" in my head.

I know how to spot the pin sharks, and I avoid them as much as possible.
But I have had some random encounters with guests for some really
awesome trades. It is usually respectful among pin traders that you offer
like value pins. I've offered an LE pin for another LE pin that person was
wearing. Or a rarer pin for a DCL pin I couldn't have gotten otherwise.

And I started a program (via a Disney yahoogroup) called Pin Pixies.
I suggested that if you see a family where the children are being nice,
cute, respectful....whatever...you ask the parent if it's ok to gift their
child (or children) some Disney pins for them to keep or trade.
I've never had a parent refuse me, especially since I tell them why I feel
their kids are deserving.

I think everyone should be a Pin Pixie at least once. :)

I'm sorry, but if your initial post you state that you have

...never been much of a pin collector till recently.

Then you harshly describe an encounter with a child who was admiring your pins and wanted to trade.
Tampa said:
...this kid seperated from his family, and ran to stand right in front of me. ... In an almost demanding voice, I hear from the little apparent boss of the family, "I want to trade".

Then, by your own description you were a bit harsh in your response to this child who was visiting a family-oriented theme park by saying,
Tampa said:
...But with this demanding kid, I muttered in my best "goth" tone, "I don't work here kid" and gave the parents a look and went on my way.

Then, you summarize your experience with a pretty bitter comment regarding interacting with others by saying
Tampa said:
...If this is what park pin collecting is like, then real life SERIOUSLY needs a boot button!

But in your later post in this thread you describe yourself as
Tampa said:

May I suggest that perhaps THAT is why kids such as the above approach you and want to trade with you? You just said yourself that you look like a cast member. Why would a young child view you as anything but if self-admittedly, you look like one. Maybe, just maybe, if you are going to look like a cast member in a family-oriented park wearing pins for all to see, you should have a little more patience with little kids who wish to trade with you.
