This is probably a silly question as vinegar is often used as a preservative, but I've just discovered a bottle of balsamic vinegar at the back of my cupboard. It must be at least 4 years since I opened it do you think it will be safe to use?

Sorry, I've no idea Libby - all I know is that if it had been opened, then I probably wouldn't use it

I hope someone can help you :thumbsup2

vinegar is a preserative and lasts for a long time. I have a bottle of Malt in my store cupboard with a date of 03. 2009. It's been in there for at least a year. i don't keep Balsamic that long.

Personally I would chuck it. If I am am not happy with somethimg and need to query it , I chuck it. :thumbsup2

I concur. Balsamic Vinegar definitely comes with shorter best by dates than malt vinegar. I suspect after 4 years it is definitely past its best.
