Has anyone heard anything new about the resort?

We were going to take a ride over there today but the message on the machine says they are still closed.

The DVC site says the soft opening should begin "by November 8" (today) although some common areas still might not be open. Let us know what you find out. How's the rest of the town? Is everything coming back to normal?

I actually received a phone call at about 9:30 a.m. today from a CM at VB(she has been holding a DVC ladies' watch for me since before the 2 hurricanes hit). She said today was their official reopening. She said the place looks beautiful and brand new. As far as reservations, etc. I'm not sure how "open" the whole place is, but she made it sound like they are up and running.

Yes it opened today with beautiful weather. Imho the Resort looks great! Did not see any guests but many CM's. Stopped by and had a Mickey Waffle at Shutters.:o:D The outer room was heavily damaged with windows blown out during Jeanne and it is closed but being repaired. Hundreds of land crabs had "invaded" the Inn and that was quite a project returning them to the beach/lagoon. The biggest change you will notice is the beach and temporary beach access which is where the campfire used to be. Most of you will not recognize the beach. They have brought in around 10,000 tons of sand and it is wider now. With most of the dune and some foilage gone ,you have more of a view of the ocean from the Inn. Lots of new foilage/flowers have been planted with a Crocodile "Welcome Home" topiary and a Sea Turtle topiary out front at the entrance to the lobby.most of the lobby floor has been replaced. The sod has also been freshly replaced in the lawn area. Hope to get the pictures posted late tonight or tommorrow.

Haven't been down to Vero in awhile, hopefully flafam can help you with that. Most public beach accesses still closed(including Wabasso,Ambersands,SeaGrape and Turtle Trail(which are some of the closest to the VB resort) A few have reopened including Sebastian State Park. Many of the Sebastian restaurants are now reopened and dock repairs have started at some marinas. Having a problem with insects(mainly gnats and tiny fruit flies) along restaurant row on Indian River Drive. US1 north is still one lane in some small stretches between Sebastian and Melbourne.Roofers, plumbers, electricians can be very hard to near impossible to find. Unfortunately what was normal will be along time coming but things are looking up.

Thx so much for the update, madcoco! So they've moved the beach access over to where campfire was? I hope they will be able to repair the ramp to the beach by the time we get there in January as DS has been promised another ride in the beach wheelchair (we simply park his regular wheelchair at the bottom of the ramp and trnasfer him); he loves the ability to go on the beach like everyone else.

The outer room was heavily damaged with windows blown out during Jeanne and it is closed but being repaired.
You'd think they'd have closed the "shutters", wouldn't you? ;) Seriously, that is their real purpose; plus they're pretty. But in storms as ferocious as Frances and Jeanne, I guess I am not surprised.

Thanks madcoco for the update! Just reading that you had a Mickey Waffle at Shutters brings a smile to my heart
They actually had land crabs in the Inn? Wow! That must have been a sight. We can't wait to go home in January and see for ourselves that our favorite place is ok!

You're welcome. Here are some pictures as promised

madcoco,
Thanks for the pix. I also can't wait to get down there to see for myself! Thanks again!

madcoco,

Thanks for the great pix! I'm looking at your signature. Does that mean you cancelled the 10-day? We were looking forward to sailing with you again.

So... the picture of the people walking down the stairs to the beach... is that where the fire pit used to be? Are these stairs permanent?

Thanks for the pictures!!! The resort looks great. Looking forward to our June trip!!!

Thanks for sharing the info. We leave for WDW on Sunday morning and will be spending the following weekend at Vero. I'm REALLY excited after seeing all the pictures.:D

:( Hmmmm, those shairs don't look very wheelchair accessible. Let's hope there is something by January or we will have a very disappointed 7 yr old boy in my family.

Wow! The topiaries and the beach look great. I wanna go home!!!!! (New VB owner, can ya tell?)

     tears of joy:teeth:

Thanks for the update and pics. It looks so beautiful.

Thanks for checking it out and sharing the pictures!!!

You're welcome. Didn't venture down on the beach yesterday morning. There were a number of graders and other vehicles working hard in the area. Here is hoping for a mild winter with minimal erosion.

Thanks, Mike!

Scott's going over to surf on Saturday. Is the "beach trash" that Peggy Fisher mentioned in Pam's post a couple weeks ago still there?

Thanks for the pictures. If I could get away right now - I'd definitely like to run over and stay a few days...
