Does it work like WDW? That you go up, get a fastpass-like ticket thing, one waits in line and does the ride and then the other one can go through a fastpass-type line after?

My husband and I want to do Twister and The Mummy, but those are "no's" for my six year old. :)

I know there are child swap lines at both parks but since I don't have kids, I don't usually pay attention to which attractions have the line.

I'm curious about chicken exits at US/IOA, if anyone has any info about that too.
I think the only chicken exits are on Hulk, Dueling Dragons and ROTM but I don't pay attention to the exits.

Child swap is available at any ride w/ height requirements. You all go through the line together and then, near the place where you load the ride, is the child swap area. One person goes to the child swap room with the child and the others ride. Then you swap while the other person stays in the child swap area. You don't exit the ride like at Disney as the child swap area is near the load part of the ride. It is usually inside in an airconditioned room w/ chairs, etc. You do not have to wait in line twice.

If you are staying onsite or have an express, you all go through the express line and then go to the child swap room. If you don't have express, then you go through the regular line and then to the child swap room. But either way, you only wait in the line one time not twice for baby swap. I think that Universal has a better system for baby swap than Disney.

ETA: Chicken exits are through the baby swap area.

After our first Universal trip a week ago, I agree. :thumbsup2 We didn't use the child swap, but I was impressed that all of the big rides seemed to have a designated child swap area very obvious at the attraction.

Chicken exits are located at almost all attractions. Often they are the same path that lead to the child swap room. Just let the TM near the load area that you're not riding and they will direct you to the (chicken) exit.

Could someone tell me how child swap works at Universal with 4 adults and 1 child? My parents are wanting to try Universal on our next trip, but I think most of the attractions will be way too intense for our 6yo daughter. Is it possible for 2 adults to wait with her while 2 adults ride?

We've never used the Disney system because anything my daughter doesn't want to ride, my parents don't want to go on either! But I think Universal will have more things they like.

Thanks for any info.
Julie

Baby swap is very convenient. It is near where you load the ride. So you go in line as a family and right before you load those who aren't going to ride then head off to the child swap room which is a waiting room with chairs. When you get off the ride, then you swap. You don't have to wait in line twice.

So wait... the child has to wait in line for a ride he's not going on? That can't be right...

They don't just give you a ticket for the other parent to go through the express line after? That's how Disney does it. They give the other parent a ticket to use the fastpass line. So while one parent is in the long line, the other parent can go on a kiddie ride with the child or give the child a snack or something.

The baby swap at universal are in the loading area? I am a bit confused? any pics out there.

as for disney i dont know about wdw.. but at disneyland they givie u a childswap ticket and go thru the fastpass entrance and hand over the ticket

Every post I have read about childswap is that Universal does a better job of childswap. They have airconditioned rooms where you can sit down. Also all the people in the party can ride a second time as long as one person stays with the child. You don't even need to go through the express line as you are right there ready to get on the ride when the first group gets off. So if you have 10 people in your party and grandma stays with the child, when you swap, everyone can ride the ride again while grandpa stays with the child. The room is comfortable and the whole family stays together as a group except for the few minutes while people are riding.

I don't have a picture. Maybe metrowest or someone could take a picture of the one at Men in Black. You can actually see your party getting on the ride and wave at them as they leave. It is a room with glass that overlooks the ride.

Huh. Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm there but it seems awful in comparison. Maybe I'm just used to Disney. We usually do our swaps when our son is asleep in the stroller or we're giving him a snack or one will go on a kid ride while the other goes on a coaster, etc. Making him wait in line with us for a ride he can't go on seems poor in comparison. I guess I'll see how it goes. No choice! :)

The waiting party does NOT have to wait in line if they don't want to, but the riding party does. Going through the line allows for the Queue Experience, as some attractions have wonderfully themed queues that are fun to be in!

I agree. I saw a video online today of the Dueling Dragons "preshow".......amazing!! I wonder who did the animation for that?
