Does Tripadvisor have it wrong? CBR vs. POR

I see that POR is rated 82 on Tripadvisor out of the 327 Orlando hotels while CBR is rated 155 out of the 327 hotels. I am debating between POR and CBR and I am having a tough time deciding. I have a DS (9 yr old) who will love the pool at CBR but POR won the 2015 Traveler's Choice for top 25 Family hotels. I have read the threads for both hotels but I am torn with the new renovations at CBR. We are renting a car so bus schedules don't matter to us. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!!

Like with most resorts it is going to be a personal choice. We did not like CBR, but that is us and our needs. The rooms were great, the same actually, Queen beds, pull down if needed. The buses were the same as POR, some days great, some days ok, and one day a nightmare, but I have had that at every resort. Nothing wrong with food courts, we prefer POR. We are not ones to sit out in sun on a sand beach so that was not a pull to us, but we are ones to grab a fishing pool for an hour early in morning and we love POR for that. The pools are hit or miss, many times crowded at both, but our little one loves POR better. If we could choose every time we would pick POFQ, but when that is not an option, because sometimes we have 5 POR is our choice. When CBR put in the bed for 5 we tried it because it gave us an option, but maybe because POR was our only option for 10 years we are just more use to it. Many people here love CBR. So I would look more at other amenities, look at the menus, snack options, look at do you love sandy beaches or a walk thru the gardens, are you one of fishing, boat rides to dtd, queint little walk thru POFQ, a carriage ride thru the resorts, pick which ones seem to fit you and son better. For us we love the bunnies and wild life we see at POR. The beds, pools and even food (not choices on menu but food courts room, crowds and such) is going to be the same so it is the other amenities that will be your deciding point and it is a personal choice.

I agree with @DG24. It's all about personal choice. After years of staying at Fort Wilderness and POP where the buses are not as frequent and POP has gotten way too crowded, POR was a welcome change of pace. I absolutely loved the quiet and beautiful scenery. The rooms were spacious and clean. The buses can be hit or miss, but they are frequent. I rarely had to wait for a bus. I just love it!

POR is our favorite moderate resort, we like the scenery and atmosphere, and think that POR has the best food court.

I'd choose POR (mansion section) over CBR for food court and bus service, but I'd choose CBR if the pools and refurb are more important to you.

Tripadvisor ratings are compiled from the ratings of folks like you and me who stay at the property. I use tripadvisor both as a reviewer and for researching hotels, restaurants, etc. However, I tend to take the ones that say a place as perfect and those who say it is worst ever with a grain of salt!!

I have never stayed at CBR so can't comment, but both POR and POFQ are great!

I'm never with the majority on this, but we LOVE CBR and have stayed there 4 times. I know POR has a huge fan base, but we live 3 hours away from New Orleans and visit regularly so maybe that's part of the drawback for us. CBR is quiet and serene and feels like an escape after a long day in the park and have never found the walk to Old Port Royale and the feature pool to be too far (even booking standard rooms). For reference, we usually request Aruba or Jamaica.

I have stayed at both resorts and love both of them. Personally I thought CBR was a better fit when my kids were young. Now that we only have adults in the family we go with POR. Don't know much about either main pool since we stuck to the quiet pools at both locations and loved them. We always stay standard rooms at both resorts and also did not mind the walks no matter where we ended up
