I have been checking the upcoming weather forecast for Orlando. We will be there 8/4-8/11. The forecast calls for thunderstorms on most days but lists showers on just a few of the days. Will there be some thunder without rain? I am from California and the rain usually follows the thunder so I am confused about this. Should I just be prepared to be miserably hot, humid and rained on? I am starting to dread the weather we will be facing. For those of you who have been recently what can I really expect? Thanks Marilyn :sunny:

You have to remember, in the summer, it rains almost every single day. But, they are summer showers. It rains for 20-30 minutes and stops. Most die-hard Disney fans don't let it bother them. They just keep going.

We've been going in summer for many years now, and my experience has always been rain EVERYDAY. Not just the quick shower I always read about, but a steady downpour for a couple hours. Usually with thunder and lightning and wind.

My best advice is get out EARLY and do stuff you can't do in the rain. Like swim or waterpark stuff. Theme parks can be managed in the rain pretty easily, so save that for when the clouds move in. :)

and don't make the mistake that I made. When you wake up in the morning and it's warm and sunny and oh so beautiful, that is a pretty sure sign that you will get the afternoon thunderstorms. I know in Ca. we're used to "waking up to sunshine means a beautiful day, ALL day."

I used to live in FL. Let me tell you if you hear thunder, find cover! FL thunderstorms may start quick and end quick, but they can be really serious with lots of lightning. I've lived in OH, VA, FL and WA and have seen nothing like some of the T-storms that we had in FL. When DH and I are at WDW and see a storm rolling through we find an inside ride or show to go to or look around a store for a while till it passes. Better safe than sorry :umbrella:

We just returned from a long weekend (late, late Thu through late Mon) at WDW. There were rain storms every evening. One night, it rained for quite a while. On Friday, the monorails stopped running for a while. Some folks with dinner ADR's at CG were pretty late arriving because of this.

One of the best thunderstorms I ever saw was when I visited the MK. We had just entered the park and we were standing by the castle when it hit. We ended up staying underneath one of those popcorn stands. I wasn't sure if that was the safest place to be but the CM wasn't worried and said it was safe. It rained hard and strong for about 10 minutes but ,call me odd, the lightning was very pretty against the castle.

Hehe...One of the things I remember most about my WDW honeymoon is dragging ponchos in and out of our backpacks.

It seemed like it rained twice a day, once in the late morning, and again in the afternoon. Shrug...whaddyagonna do? I'd rather be wet at WDW than dry at home!
