Does this waitlist really work?

I am new to the DVC and just called today to make my first reservation for a studio from Sunday June 6th to June 10th. Unfortunately, I was only able to secure reservations for the 6th and 7th at OKW, and reservations at the VWL for the 8th and 9th.It sounds great but I really hate to checkin twice for such a short stay. I waitlisted for the other resorts for the four nights, and VWL for the first two nights. (I am borrowing so didn't waitlist for OKW as I would then lose these points. August use year.) I put myself on a call list to confirm. Here's my question. Even though I waitlisted, should I call back periodically? This inventory changes so quickly. Will they really call, or just give the room away to someone with automatic confirmation? (no call required?) Any suggestions on how to secure somewhere for the four nights? Thanks to all of you most helpful discussion members!

Well, I've never waitlisted so I can't be of much help other than to say that I've read many posts here from people who were very successful using the waitlist. Good luck!

I've waitlisted and I usually get what I wait listed for.
I waitlisted for May 25 and they phoned me last week and I got it.
When someone cancels MS checks the waitlist first, when I was booking recently she found a room that she had to call up and she said if someone was on the waitlist for that room they would get it before me and they did.
I feel the waitlist works but book at another resort just in case
then cancel if you get your waitlist.

I waitlisted for New Years Day and 4 days after. Tried ressies in Oct, but had to waitlist. I really didn't think I had a chance, but gave it a try. I was able to all the days at my home resort (OKW). It did take some efforts, and getting some back up ressie at other DVC resorts until all the days lined up for me.

It's worth it.

Got my waitlist call this morning. This will be our first trip to Beach Club

Yes, the wait list very often does work. You might want to let them know that you'll take the VWL days individually. That way you can scoop up the day as it becomes available without having to have both days available at the same time. (I know that sounds confusing.) If you are having them call, I don't think you need to be too concerned about going over on your points. Just be clear that you want to use the points that you are cancelling to book the new reservation. "Yes, I want the night of 6/7 at VWL. Please cancel that night at OKW and use those points toward 6/7."

When they call, they give you until 5:00 p.m. the following day to let them know if you want the reservation.

I sure hope the waitlist works, we're on it for December!

We used the waitlist last year to get into BWV instead of our original OKW reservation when BWV wasn't available at the seven month window. We waitlisted the whole eight days and we got a call within a few weeks of wiatlisting that the whole eight day block was available in a 2BR preferred view at BWV if we were still interested. I know that the popular advice is to waitlist day by day, but the whole stay method works too as our case shows. Good Luck!!

It does work. We recently got the call for a 1BR at SSR for opening week. I never expected that to come through, especially since we only added it March.

I had a ressie for a 1 bdrm for April 18th - April 21st @ OKW. I waitlist us for the BWV and got it. It's a rather busy time of year too. The parks were mobbed!

So hang in there, Yes it works!

Good Luck,
Lisa
