Does this sound like too much? WDW and DHHI same trip

We were planning on flying to FL for a 14 day trip to WDW end of May 2018 though after our most recent stay at DHHI (loved it) we are considering a change to the original plan.

We drive to DHHI (12 hrs) and it's an additional 5 hrs to WDW. With that in mind, would you rather....

1) stay with the original plan and fly to WDW for 14 days

2) drive to DHHI for two days, then drive to WDW for nine days, drive back to DHHI for three days before driving home.

Additional info:
-traveling with two kids- will be 12,9. Both have made 12 hr drive before
-when we drive to DHHI we typically only stop for quick breaks (made it last time with only two stops!)
-We have APs
-Cost will be roughly the same. What we save in not booking flights we will use to pay for cash reservation for at least three nights.

Could you do WDW for 9 days & then DHHI for the last few days before home? To us, WDW is go go go, while Hilton Head is pure relaxation.

Whatever you decide, will be divine! Can't go wrong.

I think that's fine but I tend to agree with Gigi, get down then relax and break up the trip on the way back.

I would do the opposite. I would do 5 days at HHI, then drive to Disney World for 9 days and do the 16+ hour trip back home straight through ( with short breaks for gas, potty and food). I prefer arriving at my destinations around check in. I don't care how late I arrive home. But then, my kids were trained from an early age to endure long road trips. They think 16 hours in a car is normal. :-)

We live in the one hour from MK.
I have done the VB, DCL, HHI, & BCV all in one trip.
We have also done just HHI and AKL in one trip.
I say go for whatever works for your family, you know what is best, and your plan is certainly doable.

I would probably shorten the 9 days to 7-8 and stay longer at HHI.

I always drive to Disney and often do a day or more at HHI on the same trip.

We have a week at WDW and 5 nights at HHI coming up in July, can hardly wait! I definitely do not think what you are asking is too much. May will be a good time for such a trip, I think.

I think it sounds wonderful! I would do HHI first. What about renting a car, I know one way rentals are pricey but not near a bunch of plane tickets, and fly home from MCO? Even dropping the car off before your WDW vacation and using Magical Express.

OT -

I've had a couple of HHI trips, before and after a WDW trip.

But one just made me smile reading your post. Once we were driving home from WDW, and going up to 95 I thought "I'm not totally ready to go north yet!". And I stopped at a pay phone in a Sam's Club in Savannah, called Member Services (before online) and booked a night at HHI. A one bedroom. Oh the porches/balconies. Oh the sound of those trees! The best.

Sounds so ridiculous but that one night/two days was the greatest trip and memory! I still remember it and sigh with a smile.

Have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes
