"Does this monorail go to Universal?"

I was standing just outside of the entrance to Epcot when this family asked me this question. Do people even research Disney AT ALL before they go? I just seem to bump into the most clueless of them all.

But I am a huge Disney fan so instead of ruining their trip with some Jerrasic Park and MIB I say "Yep that's the monorail alright!" I hope they had fun at the MK :rolleyes1

I don't think some people even read the map! One time an older child was begging for the dad to get a fastpass and the dad said "I already paid too much for the tickets, I'm not paying for fastpasses too". Really?

They might have meant Disney Studios. I'm amazed at how people still mix those up.

When talking Disney trips, I had a friend ask about Universal and *I* started talking about DHS. I just had Disney on the brain.

I had a woman in line for Toy Story Mania ask me how much I had paid for my fast pass. (I was in the FP line, she in the regular.) I told her it was included in her admission ticket. I felt awful because it was already mid-afternoon, and she had wasted so much of the day not knowing about one of the best perks of Disney!

I think the natural assumption in this day is that it WOULD cost extra, like at Universal, but obviously people DON'T read the maps.

I would have told her "They're 20 bucks, but you can have mine for 10":thumbsup2

If I were not in Costume, I would tell the person to take the monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center and change for the Subway.

1) Sounds good.
2) But, can't do it.
3) The Universal subway terminal is under repair.
4) Need to take the PPM* from TTC to USF or IOA via I4.

People crack me up. Back when I was working at the studios in 2005, a man came up to me and asked me how to get to the teacups. I explained that they were located in Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and proceeded to tell him that if he had a park hopper ticket, he could go to Magic Kingdom to ride them. He then argues with me about how he was here 10 years ago and distinctly remembers the teacups being in front of the Big Blue hat and that he wanted to know why they were no longer there. I tried explaining (and in a very nice way, I might add) that the teacups had always been at Magic Kingdom and that the hat was not even here 10 years ago. He told me that I was wrong, I had no idea what I was talking about, and that he was going to go find a worker who actually had knowledge of Disney Parks.

Ugh...:rotfl:

Back in 2005 on my first trip, my wife and I knew very little about Disney. We fell in love with Mickey and Company back then and I couldn't get enough. I found the DIS boards one day while surfing and have been using it ever since. Found out we made lots of mistakes the first trip.:furious:

Since then we have used lots of useful info from here.;)

Last year I was talking to a woman at the food court at POP. She was telling me she was sooo excited to be going to Universal the next day to ride the Nemo ride.:fish:
When I asked her if she was sure...that I *thought* Nemo was a Disney thing..she got really ticked off at me!

While I get the point....I've been to WDW many times.

I've seen both sides. LOTS of times folks KNOW that the monorail goes to MK, but they just say it wrong....call it a brain fart. (like how a parent sometimes says the name of your sibling when they mean you, or emits a spoonerism when they are angry.)

So please, don't get too high and mighty. I agree there are folks who do say things wrong because they don't know better, but plenty of folks DO know better.

In my own family, a VERY young member once called the Swan and Dolphin the "Fish and the Duck." It was cute, and became an inside joke for us to call them that.

One day, we were on the bus, laughing at our joke- talking amongst our own family - when some strange lady felt the need to butt in and "correct' us. How obnoxious! We laughed at her intrusion. All TWELVE of us. Talk about a role reversal!

Myself, I will ALWAYS call it the "WEDway PeopleMover." It's a sign of my personal respect. Woe to the person who corrects me! because they don't know the history of that attraction.

We also sometimes still call it "MGM" for short. WAY less of a mouthful than the current horrible name.

Lots of names we codify in our own way, so if you ovehear us talking shorthand - please don't assume we're ignorant. ;)

We just got back from a quick 5-day trip to WDW. All of our usual trips are 10-14 days. When we told sis-in-law that we had went to Disney during spring break, she asked, "Is that all that you did?" :rotfl: I know that in her mind, WDW is probably just a 1-2 day thing like Six Flags. Some people have NO idea!

ETA: My own sister wanted to know if we enjoyed Harry Potter. When I explained to her that that was Universal, she said, "But didn't I see it on the Disney commercial?" I had to tell her that she had most likely been watching a Visit Orlando commercial...

Talk about knowledge and all ...

Last month I was in a park (can't remember which one though) and I was talking with a CM using some "disney-talk" so that at one point she asked me when I had worked in WDW ... :rotfl2:
well ... the only thing I could reply was "never but I'm on DIS" ... she had that big smile on her face and laughed.
Don't know if you'll be reading this, but Hi :)

We were behind a family at Test Track last month. They asked the CM if they could take the monorail directly to the MK. She told them yes. They asked again, "You mean we don't have to switch?" Again, she told them that was correct. DH and I stepped in and politely corrected her.

I was at Magic Kingdom today and had some guy ask me if Stitch's Great Escape was a magic show.

A few weeks ago I was at Magic Kingdom and I was waiting for Philharmagic. A family behind me asked if it was Fantasmic. I explained to them what it was. Then they asked me where the Matterhorn was. They were shocked when I told them that it was in California. Then they asked what there was to do at Magic Kingdom for kids. I don't understand how people go on vacation without doing any research.

I wish you had been around during our first trip to WDW! We had a CM tell us the same thing and that bit of misinformation turned our long, exhausting evening into a long, exhausting nightmare of an evening! :scared1:

Don't get me wrong but how is MGM any shorter then DHS? :confused3

On a message board it isn't. But in real life, out loud, people actually called it MGM (short for the official MGM studios) and in real life people mostly seem to call dhs "Hollywood studios". To most people the letters "dhs" means absolutely nothing.

DHS here is Dept. of Human Services... whom you call to report child abuse. Not exactly the same thing as Disney! LOL!
