Does this make any sense?

Okay, I was excited about the new package plans that Disney put out until now. I assume that they will not discount the rooms for Feb. and charge rack rate to do the package. I was also excited about the dinning plan too. It is a good deal BUT.... How much are you really going to save if you have to pay rack rate for your room? This is what I figured.... 6 nights at POFQ is $569.00 using the code from last month. Rack rate is $896.00 for 6 nights . Big differance. I like the dinning plan but if I have to pay$327 more for the room , than I think I will keep my discounted room, buy the discounted tickets separately and buy vochers for some of my meals. I think this would save the most money. What do you all think?

You are making a very good point. I guess it will all depend on what the prices for the new Magic Your Way packages will be. I can't believe that disney would release a new package deal like this and not have it discounted some what as a way of getting people interested in it.

I think Disney feels it is discounting the tickets and offering a good meal plan.They feel why should we also discount the rooms. Most people would not look into it more to see if they are truely getting a deal. Most people don't do this in other situations like grocrery shopping. Disney will be able to sell this package deal to many and most won't question it. The old package deals were not bargins and most of us on this board know this and ususally make our own packages. But I do know this will help some of us that plan our vacations to save money.if we book seperaterly. But I feel that the package deals will not in the long run save people money. It's kind of like a grocery stores raising their prices and then letting you use double coupons. lol
I hope since Disney is discounting their ticket prices ( which they didn't do before) they keep giving us room only deals. It seems to good to be true that they will give us discounted rooms AND tickets. I can only hope!

That was exactly what I did when I figured out how much my cost would increase with the dining package. We are staying at a Value resort, so it isn't quite the jump that yours is, but it is enough to make me think the dining isn't such a great bargain vs. leaving my hotel and park passes the way they are and applying the savings to our food budget.

Okay I did some refiguring. If you add your savings for the food plan it will come out to the same or better than the savings of your room if it was discounted. So I am swaying the other way now! lol I feel we could eat better with the meal plan then what I was planning with the lunch vochers. The dinners are more expensive and offer more fine food like lamb chops. So I think I might get the meal plan even if the room will be rack rate! At least that is what I have deceided right NOW! lol I made priority seating for my Plan B today and I will keep Plan A if I change my mind!

Even if I have to pay rack rate for the room, I'd be happy with the package. If I book everything seperatly, I won't splurge for a week worth of nice meals. I'll continue to purchase the quick and casual meal vouchers and do one or two character breakfast.

If I do the meal plan, we'll be able to have dinner at Le Cellier, Tappenyaki, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and a few others I have my eyes on.

We are going to book the meal package even if the rooms are rack rate. Maybe I am looking at this wrong but I don't see how you would not come out ahead with the meal plan. One dinner at some place like Le Cellier would cost at least $35.00 per person. That means you are kind of getting lunch or breakfast and a snack for free!! Right???

In our case, we usually do one sit-down and one counter service meal per day (light breakfast in hotel room). For DH, DS8 and myself, I budget $100 for meals. With the Dining Option, it will be $80 a day, so it saves us $20/day. Now, as it currently stands, the WDW website shows a starting room rate part of the package (once tickets are deducted) of $297/nt. for a Deluxe--which is $98 MORE than rack rate for WL...PER NIGHT. So, if I booked right now, if I did the package just to have the DIning Option, it would be $70 more per night for us.

I guess the way I look at it is that I am not going to stop going even if they do get rid of the discounted rooms. Call me crazy but when I figured out what it would cost us (DH, myself and 6 kids 13,11,8,6,3,2) for 2 rooms at Pop with the dining option and pass w/ hoping...it came out to $5570 for 10 nights(8/16-26)....if i did it the calculations right it doesn't seem all that bad!!

It's on the WDW official website right now...once you get to the main page about the MYW package---follow through 'til you get to the resort page. It says that the MYW package at the Values starts at $1300, $1500 for Moderates and $2500 for Deluxes. I think we all know that the least expensive Deluxes are WL and AKL. Let me know what you think and if I'm missing something here. Just seems too weird that rates would be that much ABOVE rack rates.

The dreamaker package they have now is rack rates. All the packages are rack rates until codes come out and then the package price is discounted.

I know i want to see what the room only rates are since the OP is saying that this new package is more than rack rate for the room. we know how much the passes are we know how much the meal plan is it is easy to calc what the total should be if you have the room rate.

I too was doing some figuring on if the new packages would be a fair deal vs. doing everything seperately. What has started to sway me is the value of dinner at a sit down restaurant. I usually budget $70 for myself and two kids per day and that includes a couple of character meals and a few sit downs but when you start to look at how many sit downs you get with the meal plan the little extra cost might be worth it. I think this will be more of a deal at the value resorts than the deluxes though. The difference between codes and regular rates is a much smaller margin.

For what I was fiquring for my family for a 10 night stay it looks like it might only cost us $200 more for the package vs. doing it on our own. Now I have to decide if we will get another $200 dollars worth of food for that. I have a teenage carnivore so it might be worth it.

Hopefully they will discount the packages slightly to make this an even better deal. I do like that you can customize your package and don't have to purchase a park pass for each day. Now if they can do that with the meal deal that would be even better.On our arrival and departure days we don't really need two meals and a snack.

It's my understanding that the meal option must be purchased for each night you are staying, so if you are staying 9 days/10 nights, you would get 9 sit down meals and 9 counter service meals and 9 snacks. You wouldn't necessarily use them on either your departure (or arrival date if you choose). You also don't have to use one of each meal on a day. You could have 2 sit down meals in one day, 2 counter services in one day, no meals one day, etc.

If you're looking at going for 6 days or more, exclusively disney parks, no UV, etc. then the new plan is a good deal. But, if like me , you only planned on doing 4 days of parks, the old 4-day park hopper with a discounted room rate,and no meals is a better deal. By the time I added in the rack rate cost of the room and the MYW 4 day tickets, along with dining option (which is a great option in my opinion), it came out to be more. I think the point of this new pricing, is to keep people inside disney for as long as possible. They've made it so staying at the parks is only a "little" bit more for each additional day. Too many people do disney , then do the "other" parks during their week vacation, and now it will be more cost effective for them to stay in disney.
