I think he *can* serve a noble purpose... just ask my friends we seem to like to use him when teasing each other :teeth:

what do you want to do, kill him

Bring out the HeH Club!:teeth:

I sometimes have to use  on myself. :o

I would never use towards anyone on the boards.

I do use it to describe a situation, such as, you know, I missed the bus and it was pouring rain.

Or, you know, I was baking cookies and discovered I had no chocolate chips.

Things like that.

I have never used it. I think it is ok if you are talking about a "subject", but to direct it at someone or what someone says, I think it is rude. JMHO

I like all the little guys but I also like chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips!  :teeth:

No one should use the little guys to hurt someone elses feelings.

 serves a noble purpose.

It is much more efficient than actually typing out "OMG, you are a complete idiot". ;)

I just love Brenda!!!:sunny: :wave2:

BTW - ITA::yes::

I think he is a cute little guy :) and I have used him

Without , I would never know if people are being sarcastic or not in the written word. After all if someone says something like "Oh yeah that movie sure was great," it's hard to tell if it was a great movie or if it was a dud without the . See, it does serve a great purpose- to help people like me be a little less befuddled. ::yes::

It reminds me of my middle school DD everytime I see it. I can't wait until we are past the eye rolling stage.

I've found uses for it, and although I don't know that I'd call them "noble" uses, I don't recall ever using it in attempt to cause hurt.

Frankly, IMHO, even this ----> :) can be used in not-good ways, and, I believe, it has been.

I see the smileys here as benign in and of themselves. It's all in how one opts to use (or not use) them. JMHO.
