Does this bother anyone else?

At the department store where I work, we get in trouble if we don't use someone's name. And even for co-workers, we are supposed to work their name in the conversations somehow.

It seems I am pretty good with last names, thank goodness. :D
I'm sorry too it that bothers anyone.

Oh my.....I use people's name all the time! I also do it to remember their names but I think it's more endearing to hear people call each other by names.

My DH never called my Mom anything. He would just speak to her directly. Never Mrs. M or Mom or anything & that always bothered me. It bothered my Mom too. She would tell me "if he doesn't remember my name, he should just call me Mom!"

I know he loved her dearly but up until the day my Mom died, he never called her anything. That was sad. :(

So in this case (Lisa), would you rather be called "honey" or "dear" or just nothing? I just don't understand what is so offensive about calling someone by their first name....unless it's a telemarketer (THEY are NOT my friends!)

I think it depends on the tone and context of the conversation.

Some people are doing it because all those seminars you go to for work regarding customer service etc always say use the person's name when you are speaking to them, so they think they are being al customer service-y.

If the tone is sarcastic, such as "No Lisa, that's not the way we do things here" or "Well, Lisa, how do you suggest we handle this?", then it annoys me.
