Does the Poly Need a FACELIFT?

Hey All!

With some of the negative feedback about the Poly, do you think it is need of a facelift? You know like brighten things up a little, maybe update the GCH and lighten the rooms up a bit with a new decor? We are schedule to go their in July and we love the tropical feel around the grounds and the lush landscaping, the monorail and tiki torches and the pool, and beach. But I was thinking maybe the rooms need a new look along with the GCH. Maybe put the Poly back were it was in it's heyday.

What do you all think?

Thanks All!

Another vote here for a major renovation. Maybe fixed some of the broken windows in 'Ohana, brighten up the rooms. Even brighter light bulbs would help; you can't even read a book in those rooms. All that being said we're going to be there again next month for a family trip. I voted for Beach Club but got outvoted.

Poly went through a refurb in 2006. I don't find it too dark, I really like it the way that it is. Now if there are some broken windows and such, of course those need to be repaired. I have to wait until Dec, to find out.

We were there in December and our room was fine, and the grounds were beautiful. From some of the posts I've read, it sounds like housekeeping may be lacking somewhat, and response to guests complaints may be lacking too (like refrigerators not working, leaky or running toilets, that type of thing).

Hmmmm....will be interesting to see. We leave in 25 days:cool1: My DH and I stayed at the GF back in October and went to the Poly several times. We had dinner at Konas and LOVED it! Walked the grounds and LOVED it. Watched Wishes on the beach and LOVED it. This trip we will be staying CL....anxious to see if there are any problems in the rooms. Will certainly let everyone know if there are;) I plan to do a trip report when we return.

I think the Poly rooms look fabulous since the last rehab. I don't see any facelift needed at all - the decor is totally fitting with the theme of the resort. I know some people don't like the rooms and feel that they are dated, but I totally disagree; they are perfectly Polynesian / Tiki themed - a little bit kitschy perhaps, but that's the theme.

Broken windows? Never noticed any so if that's true, that must be a new problem. I have seen water leaking in the lobby before though during heavy rainstorms. That probably should be addressed - it's some sort of skylight leakage problem I think - we have the same problem on our screened in back porch at our house.

We've spent about 3 weeks at the Poly over the last couple of years - all in Hawaii and I thought everything was wonderful - no complaints at all.

I love the Poly and don't think it needs to change at all. If we hadn't bought DVC, we would probably stay there every trip.

Hi Vicki!

Have you had any problems with Mousekeeping or the cleanliness of your room? We love the Poly too especially the theming of "tropics" but I do think the rooms can be a tad lighter maybe with new bedspreads or something. We went in September 08 and stayed GV facing the pool and it was very nice.

Has anyone seen the CSR rooms? WOW! THey look asolutely gorgeous! It make a big difference with the look and feel in my opinion.

We stayed at the Poly this past August. We loved it and did not find anything wrong with the room or the GCH.

I have seen some reviews on here that cite rooms not in good condition or buckets catching leaking water in the GCH. I agree that is not acceptable at all, and if that is the case, then those issues need to be addressed. We did not experience any of that, though.

I do agree that the rooms are not exactly sophisticated, upscale and elegant. If that is what I were looking for, I would not want to stay at the Poly. But we absolutely love the theming of the Poly. It is fun, attractive, and so Disney! I love it the way I love the CoP, the TTA, the monorail...

We are truly Poly fans of the decor the way it is!

We were there this past October and had no problems with our room. It seemed fairly "fresh" (ie. not in need of a refurb). It was also very clean. We did not mind the ambiance at all (except maybe it would have been more romantic without three kids in the room! :lmao:)

Of course if there are repairs to be made in other areas they should be addressed, but every resort requires maintenance from time to time. The only thing negative I would say about "shabbiness" when we were there is that the upholstery on some of the chairs at 'Ohana seemed a little worn and in need of spucing up.

I think it needs a smell lift :lmao: or am I just smelling things?:confused3 Every time I go there I think how can people stand that smell for there entire stay:rolleyes1:rotfl2:

I think others have already answered, but we have stayed at the Poly 3x since I have been an adult (my first trip to WDW was at the Poly as a "tween") - never had an issue at all. We stayed in a regular longhouse the first time (pre the most recent rehab) and have stayed in Hawaii twice. I totally believe that others have different experiences though - at any resort 2 people can have totally different experiences - but I never have at the Poly.

We're taking a short trip to celebrate our son's 13th birthday in May and it will be our first time at the Poly. Reading some of the reports about the dingy room and musty smell had me a bit apprehensive, but this thread has given me an idea. I am going to bubble wrap a couple of light bulbs and a scented candle. Problems solved.

Will TSA allow those items? :)

I stated in another thread that I think the problem(s) at the Poly are the direct concern and resposibility of the current management.

I think (my own opinion..) they've been cutting corners the first half of 2010 at least *(if not longer) and I certainly hope that Disney does a resort 'audit' with senior resorts management of that property.

My own opinion.. nothing more.
