Does the Poly Need a FACELIFT?

The Contemporary even looks cleaner in the photos. The Poly is just so brown. They should have gone with brighter colors when they renovated.

See... this where things can get dicey. I certainly don't want to scare any first-timers off or instill worry that they've picked the wrong resort.

I dearly LUV The Poly. That is why I complain about some of it's current flaws that could easily be fixed if more money was allocated to the resort from the corporate controls that be...

With the money that Disney charges for this resort, it should be in near perfect shape. There's no reason other than greed on Disney's part for it not to be. Leaking ceilings in the GCH (the same places for over a year, now) are unacceptable.

The same goes for broken closet door handles, the ever-over-heating refrigerators, (why haven't these been replaced ? I bet you know the answer)
dusty room corners and picture frames from out-sourced mousekeeping and so on...

And don't even get me started on the lack of a hot tub at a deluxe resort. :confused3

But, having said all that, will I return to The Poly ? Absolutely. In part because in spite of it's shortcomings it's still a wonderful place to be, and in part for nostalgia for a lifetime of good memories there. Memories of a time when things were perhaps a bit better than they are now.

What he said!

Nope! IMO, WDW does not need another bright white duvet and trim resort. I love the unique flavor (and smell!) of the Poly. Now they of course need to stay on the maintenance and upkeep-- and I've never had an issue with either in all of my visits, btw (I could tell you stories about some of my other WDW resort experiences though )-- but otherwise it is perfection.

The Poly gets complaints because the service has gone down tremendously. My expectations are not too high. I expect a clean room and good service and I expect this no matter where I go. Unfortunately, the Poly has not met either requirement. BTW,the fact that it is on the monorail does not and should excuse its failings. The GF and CR both meet my expectations and they're on the monorail. What makes the Poly different? As for it being a 4 star hotel - only in Fantasy land and compared to other Disney resorts. In the real world, it might be a 3 star. what Frommer's gives it 2 stars and they rate resorts around the world.

My sentiments exactly. Not sure why the Poly is held at a different standard:confused3 Like I said earlier the grounds are beautiful and the pool and the view is superior. It's also nice to have several good restaurants on the property. But if people are paying top dollar they should have a clean room, and maintenance should step up to the plate to repair/replace leakages and other items in a guests room or at the GCH, in my opinion. Afterall, this is suppose to be a "DELUXE" resort. Right? :confused3For first timers though, I would certainly give it a shot. It is quite serene.
