Does the DLH leave ricekrispy treats for you on your first night too?

PP did leave us Rice Krispy treats once when it was my dd's birthday (I had noted that on the reservation because they asked). The next time, we were there celebrating her bithday, they didn't do anything special which was fine (DL is special in and of itself!). I might add that on one of those visits we were also upgraded to a view room. We weren't concierge either time.

At the DLH, we have celebrated a couple of birhtdays there and same sort of thing. Once it was a big deal, the other time it wasn't.

It sort of depends on the cm's, how busy they are and how "in" to their jobs they are. I have stayed on cash, on DVC points and there's no way to predict. Its nice when it happens but I never get my hopes up!

Or maybe they should give you Mondays paper on Sunday!!! :lmao: J/K, I agree though if they aren't going to give papers on Saturday and Sunday then they should discount the resort fee for people staying on Friday and Saturday nights! :thumbsup2

Yep. I would be happy to take a day-old paper or Monday's paper on Sunday. Or one left behind by a guest that checked out pre-newspaper delivery! It just doesn't seem like it would be too big of a deal for them to leave some extras behind their front desk. I bet they have a stash somewhere. I think when I get there to check in at the crack of dawn on October 3, I will ask again about the paper. You know how different Disney people will give you different information!

I think the birthday thing is really hit or miss--a year and a half ago we stayed at the GCH and for my Mom's birthday they left a card, a picture, candy and a sequoia tree seed in a really cute can! This year on my birthday--nada. Not even extra candy. I was really disappointed. (and the front desk knew AND I was staying on DVC points and DVC cs knew too). To top it off, we went for dinner at Ralph Brennan's ON my birthday and it was a disaster--just awful. They tried to sit us outside and it was FREEZING (with my 75-year old Mom on a walker no less). And then they jammed us upstairs in the dining room (because they had sold out the bottom floor to a private party--which they neglected to mention when we made the reservation). They knew it was my birthday too and the table next to us got free dessert, but we didn't! (of course, a friend had brought a mini cake, but still--they could have acknowledged it).

I was so upset with the whole thing when I got back to the hotel I asked to talk to the manager--and explained to him that they need to be consistent about the birthday thing (there's a reason we spent the extra $$$ to stay at the GCH rather than Hojo's or elsewhere)and really wanted a better explanation from the Jazz Kitchen as to why we were treated the way we were. The manager tried to give us free breakfast the next morning but we were leaving early and didn't have time so I declined. He also promised to check into it and get back to me. That was April 1--I'm still waiting.

It hasn't stopped me from staying at DLR hotels--but it has certainly lowered my expectations.

You should just go to the parks and not expect anything other than what you pay for! If you want a cake delivered to your room then you should order one and pay for it. If you get lucky and some cast member orders some rice krispie treats delivered to your room think of it as a bonus. Just because it's your birthday you shouldn't expect all kinds of free stuff thrown at you. Odds are on any given day there are hundreds of other people celebrating their birthday at Disneyland too. Also, do you expect better service because you are a DVC member? You really shouldn't! they know you are coming back regardless of how they treat you, and besides, They already have your money! ;)

Actually, now that you say that about how it sort of depends on the CM's, it reminds me that when I was on the phone with a WDTC person last year, they said the same thing. They said that when you get the birthday buttons, make sure to wear them everywhere because sometimes you will get special treats (and we did, off and on), BUT that it depends on which CM's see you. Some of them make a big deal and go out of their way to do something - which could be a small something or a big something - and sometimes all you get is a 'Happy Birthday.' So I guess that is how it works with all of DLR - sometimes you get treats and sometimes you don't!

I have a standard city view room at PPH booked for October, and normally, that would be the 'slow' time of year so I would have hopes for an upgrade to a view room, but it sounds like it is going to be a pretty busy weekend so I suspect all the good view rooms will be taken.

Do they just tell you they are upgrading you when you are at the fornt desk, checking in? Or do you actually have to ask them to give you a free upgrade if one becomes available?

We asked when we checked in and sure enough we received a theme park view room. It never hurts to ask :)

That is what I am thinking. I guess it never occurred to me to ask in the past because I assumed there would be a charge to upgrade. Again, if the time I am going is still a 'slower' time of year (despite the increase in business due to those PIN# discounts floating around), there may be rooms available to upgrade to - then again, they may not let me because I used the PIN# discount. But we shall see.

I wasn't looking for Rice Krispie treats. That was another poster.

Like some of the other posters, I feel that Disney really sets a certain expectation that they do something special for special occasions when you stay at a Disney hotel== birthdays, anniversaries, etc.--otherwise why do they ask each time you make a reservation whether you are celebrating a "special" event? (and they ask not only at the hotels but at restaurants, etc.)

--and having experienced in my family "special" treatment at least once, it is disappointing when it is hit or miss. If you would re-read my post I did say my expectations are now lowered. My point is that if they are going to do it then they need to be consistent--either do it for everyone who is flagged as celebrating a "special" event or don't do it for anyone.

I totally agree. Why do they ask if you are celebrating anything? It does give the impression that they are going to do something special and there is a let down if they do not.

Instead of specifically asking if you are celebrating anything, maybe they should just ask "What brings you to the happiest place on earth today?
