Does the DLH leave ricekrispy treats for you on your first night too?

Like somebody else said, the pictures and balloons can be for any hotel guest. Just send your request to vacation planning ahead of time. When we went last December (GCH) they had the pictures I requested for both of my girls (Princesses for one, Minnie for the other) and balloons for both of them. Now that I think about it, I didn't ask for the balloons ahead of time, they just brought them out from the back. They also gave us 4 coupons for pin sets at Acorn gifts. Oh and she gave both of my daughters the Tink share pin sets since they were both so well behaved during check in. It was a really great way to start our trip!

As for treats in the rooms, we only had chocolates at turn down. We were in a regular room.

regular room.. my son was bummbed when he opened the door.. he told them they had the wrong room we didn't order anything lol.. then the lady explained it was part of magical moments and if we were not there they would have left them for us and that it's totally random. The boys were so happy!! and jumping up and down.. Really cute..

Oh my goodness! When cupcakes were mentioned, I was thinking the hard, dry kind they give you at Goofy's Kitchen! I had no idea this was what they were! Wow! I would probably have to scarf all of those cupcakes down myself! Yum! The chocolates in the pics are the ones they give at the GCH when they knock on the door and ask if you want turn-down service. But they certainly don't hand out scrumptious looking cupcakes like that!

I think the best way to assure you are going to have a special treat( especially for a birthday) is to request it and pay for it. I think Disney does a good job of trying to accomadate the freebies they can. And if you do not get something that should be or was free do you really have the right to complain??

On our last trip i ORDERED milk and cookies and was given the rice Krispie treats. My husband called when we got to the room and very quickly Disney fixed the issue for us. really simple to do and only takes 1 phone call for an assortment of things you can get ranging from cheap to expensive and the kids love it.

I got those coupons for the Acorn Gifts pins, as well as the Tinkerbell share pins when we stayed at GCH in December too! And we had the chocolates at turn-down. Sounds like your group got the same stuff as our group! There was no advance warning for us other than I told them we were celebrating birthdays and they put it in the computer. And they gave us the birthday buttons as well.

I keep hearing about this Vacation Planning but have never called them. Do they charge (I am sure they do)? What kinds of things can I request from them? Cupcakes?!!:)

No there isn't any charge for their services....If you make your priority seating thru them also they will give you an itinerary when you check in :)

Disney is very good at giving out little free odds and ends sometimes, and then other times, not so much. Just this morning, I was asking someone in Reservations about how I can make sure I will get the newspaper that is part of my resort fee, as the last two times I was there, I did not get it. The girl said that the papers arrive at the doors at around 6:00 a.m., so the person in the room before we get there will get the newspaper I am supposed to have, even though they are checking out that day and have already gotten a newspaper of their own! That, to me, seems like something they should fix. They should have a way to ensure that, if the newspaper is going to be included in the resort fee, all guests should get one, even if they have to hold it at the front desk for you or have housekeeping bring it later or something. They have not fine tuned everything yet, even though they are a well-oiled machine!

I should point out that the reason I was on the phone with reservations today was because they sent me a confirmation e-mail for the reservation I made yesterday, and it was for somebody else's reservation! I almost didn't even look at it, and then I noticed that the dates were different, there were kids listed on it (I don't have kids), the amount due was different, there were special notations - it was NOT my reservation! So I called and told them of their mistake (and they seem to be making quite a few mistakes lately), and they got my e-mail address from me because they said they didn't have one for me on file! Well, they just sent me someone else's reservation confirmation via e-mail so they had it at one point, but that person probably has MY e-mail address info in his file, and likely received my reservation confirmation! Pretty funny. It is a good thing I caught it in time!

But I assume that whatever your request is - like cupcakes or a Christmas tree - is charged to your room bill upon check-in or check-out, correct? What is the DVP number? Do you have it off hand or is it on the Disneyalnd website?

I think this is a situation where sometimes you just get lucky and get something extra.

We have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel many times (twice a year for the last 9 years) and the Grand Californian once, and only one time did we get something extra in our room.

We have never stayed concierge--so it was not related to that.

It was for our stay at the Disneyland Hotel last December, and when we got back to our room after our first night in the parks, we found a large plate of Christmas cookies (with a rice krispy treat) and milk for all of us. The milk was on ice and each cup was covered. It was left when housekeeping got done cleaning, I think. We were all thrilled!

They will charge it two days before you arrive. You have to give them a credit card # when you order. Barbara Jensen has always helped us her email is Barbara.Jensen@disney.com
vp phone # is (714)300-7526 option 2
Hope this helps :)

Well we did get what I paid for but the CM on the phone at reservations stated quite clearly that both of our guys would get an autographed photo from at least one of the characters. That's why I was upset, she shouldn't have told me that if it wasn't going to happen. I also didn't even realize it until the next day, we checked in at about 1 am after a 6 hr drive so we were tired.....we got our room and fell into bed, the next day the first timer was so excited to go to the parks we just jumped up and got out of there. We spent the whole day in the parks and when we got back (wet from the rain, it was January) we just wanted to get warm and into bed again. That was when I saw the gift basket I had ordered and then looked for the autographed pictures that weren't there. I thought about complaining but when I mentioned it both guys said not to worry about it so I didn't. DBF did wear a b-day button earlier that month, this was our second visit that month to celebrate his birthday. LOL He wore the button the first trip because it was closer to his actual b-day. :)

When we stayed at the GCH (non-concierge) we got chocolates with our turndown service every night. And the maids always put the girls stuffies in cute positions on their beds, by far the BEST stay ever was at the GCH!!! I love it there and just wish it wasn't so much. Also, on our first night we got to our room and there were autographed photos of the Toy Story gang, Woody, Buzz, Jessie. We did not ask for those and we were quite happy to get them!

Our first concierge stay was at PPH and we DID get the yummy Rice Krispy Mickey heads treats the first night. We were very impressed. :cool1:

So, imagine our surprise, our first night in concierge at the GCH, that we got nothing! We were totally expecting (and craving) the Rice Krispy treats. :confused3

They did leave the Disney chocolate coins on the beds, but I have to say, after getting the treats at PPH, we expected something spectacular at the GCH.

I actually asked the concierge staff about it the next day and no one even knew about the Rice krispy treats that they leave for you at PPH. They looked at me like I was crazy.

It does help! Thank you! I probably will not use them for this upcoming October PPH trip because that will be a more modest endeavor, but if I get my finances in order and have the Christmas trip I intend to have, THAT is when I might consult Vacation Planning and ask for treats! I am going to jot down the number and e-mail address now. Thanks again!

AND they leave those chocolate coins for everyone at GCH - even the people in standard rooms! You should have gotten something extra that standard room guests did not get!

I know - that GCH is the best for a few different reasons but it is SO costly. If you recall, Pixiewings71, a few months back I was telling you I had a dilemma because I had a standing reservation at the GCH for this coming December but had lost my job. So, I ended up cancelling the GCH reservation for December and got my money back (minus $100). I STILL have not found a job (five months later) other than my freelance work at home, but then this PIN# discount thing for the hotels came up and I was SO tempted to get the GCH for December at the discount rates, but it still was too much money without a job to back me up. However, I am holding out hope that I will have a job soon and can keep my initial December GCH plan! Anyway, I still had a couple of extra tickets to the park and I used the PIN# discount for the PPH in October instead, which is about $150 less than what I paid at the PPH last year, so at least I will see the Halloween stuff. AND a couple of friends are pitching in to make the financial burden on me for the October trip a little less - and that is good, since I used to pay for everything myself, if you remember! So, I am grateful to be going at all with the year I have had, BUT my wheels are still spinning as to how to pull off a GCH December trip!:thumbsup2 Disneyland at Christmas is too special to miss! Halloween is not enough! So even if I have to just go for one day around Christmas, I will!

Crazy! My bf and I stayed at PPH last year for the first (and only, lol) time, during their AP rates. I remember we got the room for two nights for $129.

Anyway, I had reserved just a standard room, not a view, cuz of course that was more expensive. When we checked in, they said, "And that is a theme park view...." I was like, what? LOL! So I asked what the rate was again and they said $129. Sweet! However, instead of my bf's name on the reservation they had some other random person's. I felt kinda guilty, like I had taken someone else's reservation, but not too guilty as I got a view room ;)

So the first night we were there we got the turndown service, the Mickey candies and..... the elusive Rice Krispy treats!!! We were so excited. I think I ate both of them, lol!

So now I'm wondering if they accidentally bumped us up to concierge? Crazy!

That is how it works at ALL the hotels... The person that sleeps in the room that night will get the newspaper in the morning BEFORE he checks out. Just like you will get the newspaper the morning of the day you check out. :thumbsup2

I think the birthday thing is really hit or miss--a year and a half ago we stayed at the GCH and for my Mom's birthday they left a card, a picture, candy and a sequoia tree seed in a really cute can! This year on my birthday--nada. Not even extra candy. I was really disappointed. (and the front desk knew AND I was staying on DVC points and DVC cs knew too). To top it off, we went for dinner at Ralph Brennan's ON my birthday and it was a disaster--just awful. They tried to sit us outside and it was FREEZING (with my 75-year old Mom on a walker no less). And then they jammed us upstairs in the dining room (because they had sold out the bottom floor to a private party--which they neglected to mention when we made the reservation). They knew it was my birthday too and the table next to us got free dessert, but we didn't! (of course, a friend had brought a mini cake, but still--they could have acknowledged it).

I was so upset with the whole thing when I got back to the hotel I asked to talk to the manager--and explained to him that they need to be consistent about the birthday thing (there's a reason we spent the extra $$$ to stay at the GCH rather than Hojo's or elsewhere)and really wanted a better explanation from the Jazz Kitchen as to why we were treated the way we were. The manager tried to give us free breakfast the next morning but we were leaving early and didn't have time so I declined. He also promised to check into it and get back to me. That was April 1--I'm still waiting.

It hasn't stopped me from staying at DLR hotels--but it has certainly lowered my expectations.

No, we won't get a newspaper because we check out on a Sunday and they only leave you the newspapers on weekdays (the Friday paper covers the whole weekend), BUT the newspaper is part of the resort fee I am paying, so last year when I brought that to their attention, they acknowledged that it wasn't fair and they actually refunded me the few cents for the newspaper! I didn't ask them to, they just did. I just asked if they had any extra papers. Back in 2000, I stayed at PPH and we DID get the newspaper on a weekend morning, but they have changed their policy about it now. I just think that if anyone is paying a resort fee that includes something that you are not even getting access to - like the paper - they should give you a day-old paper, or keep extra copies behind the desk in case one of the other guests steals your or something. It would be good customer service.

Or maybe they should give you Mondays paper on Sunday!!! :lmao: J/K, I agree though if they aren't going to give papers on Saturday and Sunday then they should discount the resort fee for people staying on Friday and Saturday nights! :thumbsup2
