Does Teppan Edo cook eggs?

Strange question, I know, but ODS is severely allergic to eggs, and I want to make sure they don't cook eggs on the Hibachi grill (the fumes could make him have a reaction). I seem to remember that they don't do fried rice, they do noodles as a side instead, so no eggs (at least not in raw form-- not sure if the noodles contain eggs, but although he wouldn't be able to eat them if they did, it shouldn't cause a reaction from fumes at the grill). Is that right? TIA! --Katie

You should do a notification of this person's allergy (I am not sure what an ODS is, but there is contact information for Disney Special Diets on the DISAbilities board, and you can make a notation on your ADR, call and have that done) and the restaurant, once notified, will make sure the allergic person is not around anything he shouldn't be around.

My DH and I have been here twice. And while I don't remember them using raw eggs, I would agree with TDC Nala and tell you to call. You never know when the restaurant is going to change a dish's preparation or ingredients. So even if they didn't do it yesterday, they may change by next week. Better safe than sorry, especially if his reaction is strong.

Oh, and I think ODS stands for "Oldest Dear/Darling Son"...right?

2) They do cook a raw egg on the grill surface, depending upon the dish ordered.
3) One of the notable Hibachi fancy "tricks" (like an onion volcanoe)
. . . toss an egg in the air
. . . catch it once or twice on a spatula and balance it
. . . the last toss, slice it down the center and then cook it
4) I can remember, because our chef missed the slicing and it when "splat" on the grill surface.

NOTE: If allergic, could be tough. I don't knoe it they would stop someone else at the table from ordering something that used the eggs(s). After all, unless yours is a big family, you WILL be sitting with others.

My nephew is allergic to eggs but he is not allergic to egg fumes. What the Benihana at home does is cook ALL his food before anything with eggs in it. If the child is allergic to fumes from eggs cooking, and Teppan Edo does cook eggs, likely they will seat your group alone and not put anyone else at the same hibachi, so they don't have to tell another party that there are certain things they cannot order. If you need your child separated from any other hibachi in the room (there are more than one hibachi table per room; I think each room has four) ask the restaurant about that, too. There is a private room. I don't know if they can do hibachi in front of you in the private room though.

Thanks for the replies, guys. We have already notified them of DS's food allergies. The reason I'm a little worried is that we're meeting my cousin and his family there for dinner. We've already requested that my cousin and his family not have peanut sauce at 'Ohana (during another joint dinner) b/c of DS's allergy, so I hate to be a drag on their vacation and nix all eggs at Teppan Edo, too. We honestly don't know if DS will have a reaction to the fumes or not, but during our first night of vacation would not be my favorite time to find out. With my cousin's family, we will have a party of 10, so we will have the table all to ourselves. My parents are coming with us also, and they, having seen DS's reactions first-hand, have no problem not eating a food b/c DS is around. We haven't hung out with my cousin's family in a few years, so they're really not that familiar with DS's food allergies. UGH. I hate situations like this. I was really hoping they just didn't serve eggs at all, so I could avoid the whole situation! Has anyone been there recently and seen the whole "egg trick" being done?? --Katie

If your kid is that sensitive to eggs that fumes can send him into an allergic reaction, I'd say that this is not the place for you. Even if you don't order anything with eggs in it, eggs are cooked on the hibachi prior to you arriving. In addition, others at your table probably will order food with eggs in the preparation. And even if no one at your table orders anything with eggs in it, there are a bunch of other hibachi grills in the place and any one of them could be preparing eggs.

This sounds like an unnecessary risk.

After looking at the menu on allears, I'm sort of wondering the same thing. I don't see fried rice (or anything else that would have eggs in it) on the menu. Maybe they used to serve fried rice, and they don't any more ? Can anyone who's been there recently confirm? --Katie

I don't know if you're aware, but Teppan Edo's tables seat eight. Your party of ten will likely be seated at two tables. Maybe you could put anyone who wants to eat eggs at the second table. If there's a concern about the fumes that may not work either.

It is true that Teppan Edo used to serve fried rice, but no longer does. I don't recall if they serve anything else with eggs. If they serve sukiyaki, that contains eggs. I have seen the egg trick at Benihana, but not at Teppan Edo.

You asked if they served eggs at all, and if the noodles they do serve contain eggs - I'm assuming you might ask that no one eat the noodles if they do. If the fumes are not a concern, the chef can prepare all the child's food before cooking any noodles. The only way you'll know that is to ask at the restaurant regarding what ingredients they use in the noodles. You could try calling the restaurant directly (not WDW-DINE, they won't be able to answer that question) if you really need to know before you even get there.

Last time we went to Teppan Edo we were at a table with someone with allergies. They cooked his whole meal, served it to him, then started with the rest of the tables. Sure made us awfully hungry! lol.

Thanks for the info. I did a search here on the Dis shortly after I booked the ADR for 10, and it seems that if you are a party of 10, they will squeeze the extra 2 people in at the table. So, we're hoping to all sit together. The noodles, even if they contain egg, are not likely to cause an allergic reaction from the fumes like straight egg would. Allergies are an interesting and confusing beast! Thanks for the tip about calling the restaurant directly, I did that last trip with 'Ohana since I was freaked out about the peanut sauce being everywhere. They were WONDERFUL. I will probably call the restaurant closer to our ADR date to find out about the noodles. --Katie

since teppan edo serves udon noodles, there shouldnt be any eggs in there. typical udon noodles are made with flour, water and salt. i woudnt be worried about the noodles.

We ate there last Friday night and there were no eggs used at our table. I don't recall seeing eggs last year during our lunch there, either. At our local hibachi places, they only use eggs in the rice, and TE gives you bowls of steamed white rice instead of fried (which I LOVELOVELOVE...my husband makes fun of me because I always sub my fried rice with steamed at the takeout place at home and they NEVER get it right. So, last week when they brought the rice out, he leaned over and said "You finally got your steamed white rice!")
