You know the ones I mean...the ones with the silly saying like "I'd really like to direct" and the classic one about hiding out in sporks.

DH became ill yesterday and he's realized he hasn't changed out his Taco Bell sauces in a long, long time at his desk at work. We're thinking this is what upset his stomach.

Anyone work at Taco Bell here?

I'm not sure if they do or not. However, if the do you'd think there would be an expiraiton date on the little packed. I don't think it was the TB sauce that made him ill though.

I'm betting it was the burrito he ate. He got it at Fresh n Easy.

But really, all of the stuff we've had from there before was just fine. I think he just got a bad burrito.

But I'm still hoping someone will say that TB sauce expires. I have a lot in my fridge I'd love to toss out!

I'm looking at a packet right now. No expiration date.

Found this:

The most common break room condiment package of all may be the Taco Bell hot sauce pack. Taco Bell says their Fire, Hot and Mild sauce packages are best when used in 120 days. They are generally in Taco Bell for no more than 30 days.
To help you out, here's a little guide with the unrefrigerated shelf lives of some common Heinz condiment packages:

Horseradish sauce: 8 months
Hot taco sauce: 4 months
Ketchup: 7 months
Mayonnaise: 8 months
Mild taco sauce: 9 months
Relish: 9 months
Steak sauce: 9 months
Tabasco sauce: 8 months
Tartar sauce: 8 months
Yellow mustard: 9 months

HOLY COW! Husband's TB Sauce is something like one year old or so.

THANKS for the info! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I guess I should throw away all of my TB and other condiment packets. I keep those things forever and a day. No more!

Me too, who knew. I'm guessing those ketchup packets that are brown instead of red should be thrown out too. YUCK!

It's been a couple of months now, but we went to use some TB sauce that we had sitting around for who knows how long. Before actually putting it on the taco's, I squirted it on a napkin. It was a very, very dark brown/red, not any where close to the normal color. We threw all of it out. So, yea it does go bad.

There are expiration dates printed on the boxes, but not on the individual packs. :thumbsup2

His burrito, which was handled by a person, was probably the culprit. The sauce is far more likely to taste and look bad than to actually be dangerous after the expiration date. Still, I wouldn't eat it. :)

It was a one-evening thing, so to speak. He's all better now, thanks!

Let's face it, he wouldn't have noticed! They've been really busy with Christmas release (he works in DVD/BluRay audio) and he barely has time to shove food in some days.

But the customers don't get the boxes!

We think so. He ate another burrito from the same grocer and it was just fine. It could have been that some of the ingredients were left out too long during prep or taking into account how old the TB sauce is, it could have been the sauce!

We've dumped all the sauce and thankfully, we'll have to go to Taco Bell soon to replenish his stash. He just loves the flavor and I love not cooking for one night! :thumbsup2
