Does Spirit Airline make you take your shoes off?

I'm only asking because I was going to wear a pair of capris and sandals, but if I'm going to have to trapse through the airport in bare feet, I'll wear something else!:o

The airline has nothing to do with taking your shoes off. Where you take your shoes off is at the security check point. As to if you have to take them off, who knows? It seems to depend. I take mine off no matter what. It is easier then dealing with the TSA and you only have to walk a few feet while your shoes go thru the scanner. If you wear them and your shoes set off the scanner then you will be pulled aside for the full scan.

Denise, We just got back from The Bahamas, flying out of Philly, and the security woman told people that unless they were wearing sneakers, to take off your shoes and put them on the conveyor. It was only a matter of walking through the metal detector to the end of the conveyor, where I got my sandals and put them back on. I didn't have to do this coming home, go figure! Have a great trip! :D

Denise,

Are you flyng out of AC. If so, if you are taking the 7:00am flight what time do you arrive before the flight.

I have flown Spirit out of AC a few times. Once I was asked to take off my shoes, and twice I was not.
In the looooong line to get thru Security at MCO on our most recent return trip home, there was one Security line that was asking people to remove their shoes and the other lines were not.
I heard a news report (on the way home from the airport!) that there is such a huge inconsistency from airport to airport as to whether they make you remove your shoes or not, and a lot of people are complaining. So now most airports are going back to asking you only to remove your shoes if you set off the dector when going thru or only randomly asking people.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll wear sneakers anyway.

njdizneygal: I'm on the 2:05 from AC to Tampa. There is no WAY I'm going to sit there by myself for 3 hours. Maybe more like 1 1/2 hours or so. I'm not checking any luggage since it's a short trip (visiting my parents).
