Does Sharpie Pen Bleed through to other page?

Hello!
I just received some autograph books that were homemade from Ebay. They are spiral bound with a picture of the character and name of the chacater on the right hand page. The opposite page of the book (left hand side) has just a little border around a blank space where you could tape a picture.

My question is, will the Sharpie Marker Pen bleed through to the other side of the page? The paper it was made on doesn't seem very thick. Do other Disney autograph books have thicker pages? Should I keep this book and just use a different pen?

Also, the books have 80 characters printed in them. They are in alphabetical order. Will this be a pain trying to find the character?

Thanks for your help with this! This will be our first trip to Disney, so this is all new to me.

Let's do a test and see...

If you saw Peter Pan signing, how long would it take you to find his page?

Next is Wendy.

Here comes Captain Hook. (C or H?)

...and Mr. Smee (M or S?)

Now... here comes a "bear" whom you don't recognize...
where do you look in the book?

Test completed.

That ought to tell you how hard or easy it is for you.

Your book sounds really cute!!

I would recommend another pen as the sharpies do bleed through sometimes.
We've used the pen that you can purchase in the parks - it's a larger blue pen with a mickey head on top.

Believe me, you'll be waiting on line to see whatever character it is~you'll have time to find your page...

Relax, have fun!

Sharpies do bleed through.
How much depends on the thickness of the paper, but I use them a lot at work, and they do bleed through.

My thought on Sharpies would be that DD5 is the one who carries the book and pen to the characters. She would have to have the lid open and waiting when she sees the characters. As a mom I see everyone of her outfits ruined with permanent marker! (I learn from past mistakes! LOL) We have used the pens from the gift shop with mickey on top as the other poster recommended. Your book sounds really cute But Some of DD's books have Jasmine and Alladdin and Belle and Beast together on the same page. She loves seeing them together! You could still use the book. We take a picture of DD with each character. Put those on each page with the characters name! Have fun!

(clickable sharpies would solve that last problem)

A way to hopefully eliminate the bleeding through on Sharpies would be to do what diner servers do with their pads. Have a piece of cardboard to put between the sheets when the character is signing. Even a piece of poster board cut the same size as the autograph pages. Just take one or two and "reuse" it by slipping it in and out between the pages where needed.

And don't worry about finding the characters names immediately. If you are in line for Aladdin and Jasmine, get one autograph and the other one is going to wait for the appropriate page to sign. In fact, they'd probably help to find the correct page. And comment on how unusual the book is.

Character autographs are a pretty civilized affair at Disney World.

Ok, I admit we used Sharpies to have them sign Disney playing cards, unfortunately they are the only pens that will work so if we do it this way again we will have to use Sharpies, but some of the costumed characters (esp. Pluto) seemed to shudder at the idea of using a sharpie, what happens if he slips, that just ruined a costume. So in hindsight I would not recommend a sharpie.

the characters actually do prefer clickable sharpies. they have to. sharpie is a major sponsor at WDW.

pluto's not the one that has to give himself a bath so i'm not sure he's too upset with the idea. the obstacles they have to deal with are pens/markers with barrels wide enough to be able to grip well and caps that have to be removed, which is where clickables help.

as far as bleeding goes, i didn't think it was an issue of the actual ink literally going through the paper and ending up on the next page? i thought it was a matter of the signature showing on the back of the page it was signed on, so it'd be impractical to have two signatures on either side of the page. if that's true, the cardboard or additional paper wouldn't help, but as always, i could be wrong in my understanding.

Just got the "official" advice for Sharpies. I live with a sports collector. I don't even think he knows how many autographs he has.

You should not use Sharpies on any pourous materials. That would include paper. It causes the ink to bleed. If you have laminated pages, a Sharpie would work.

So, as a OT piece of advice, don't ask your favorite baseball player to sign a baseball with a Sharpie. It'll bleed eventually. Sharpies are great for football helmets.
