We bought airline tickets through Orbitz the other day for our December trip. We got them at $183 each from Orbitz, but they were showing up as over $420 each on American Airlines.

Well yesterday, I checked the AA site for our tentative May 2005 trip dates, and they showed $177 each for many flights. But I wanted to wait at least a month or 2 since we just bought our December tickets. I checked today though, and the $177 fare is up to over $360 on the AA site, but Orbitz shows $183 for those same flights.

So does Orbitz buy out all the cheap seats to sell themselves? I hate paying the $6 per ticket service charge, argh.

No. Orbitz is supported by many of the airlines. Instead of paying money they give airline tickets to be sold on Orbitz. Sometimes Orbitz is cheaper sometimes the airlines is better.

Most times I find better rates on the airline site with more flexibility with flight times.
