Does or has anyone grown Eucomis, commonly known as Pineapple Lilies?

I am really interested in growing these this year. I am going to order some and I wondered if anyone else grew them. :)

If anyone has, can you tell me your experience with them and if you remembered where you ordered them from? Thanks! :)

I'm would like to try to get the bi-color variety.

Hi Saffron! :)

I've never grown Pineapple lilies, I'd never even heard of them before until you asked about them. You can already tell how much help I'm going to be....LOL! :)

Anyway, until we get an answer from a Bud who's grown them, here are a couple of links with some info on them, and they can be ordered from these sites also.

I hope this helps! :)

Aww, thanks you two. :)

Actually, I planted one bulb (LOL!) in a terra cotta planter about 2 weeks ago. :D It's a pink variety. I found it at Franks Nursery. It didn't look like the healthiest bulb, but we'll see. :D There were signs of life when I planted it, but I haven't seen any growth yet. LOL!!! *sigh* :D I'll let you know what happens. :p

Thanks for your help! I'm going to check out the links now. :)

My sister has had a pineapple lilly in a pot for about five years and it gets bigger and better every year. I am growing some that I bought at Lowes and I hope they turn out as pretty as hers. Also one of my gardening buddies grows them in her yard and they come back every year and have multiplied. We live in zone 7 in Tennessee. Look for them at Lowes and Good luck with your garden!:p

hi sis

yes I have bben growing these in containers for years they are really beautiful and get bigger and bigger every year like my sister said.

I have two different ones(one of which-the oldest one ) is up and looking great the other two have yet to pop up hope I have not lost them.:(

they bloom for a really long time and everyone comments on them.

You will love them.

Although I have never tried them outside in the garden(only in terracotta pots I take in in winter)I might give this a try.
