Does one with a single food allergy still email Special Diets anymore?

Hi all! I was looking on the Disney site to confirm that I remembered the Special Diets email address correctly, and found that the SD write-up has changed since I last read it.

It says "Advance arrangements are not necessary for guests with lifestyle dietary requests." Then below, states that those with Multiple Allergies or other serious conditions like PKU should email SD at least 2 weeks prior to arrival.

My DH and 2/3 of our sons have Celiac, so I guess that puts us in the middle! But it doesn't say one way or the other about emailing SD with ADR#s if there is a single/straight-forward true medical intolerance.

In the Dis-ers opinion, should I still email SD, and is it still appropriate to anticipate they'd send out the fabulous Gluten Free lists they used to send? Has anyone else with a single allergy emailed SD recently and gotten the lists for their allergen? (because I just love the lists! But I understand if/why they would cease the practice, even though I'd be sad!)

Thanks for the input/experience!

Celiac isn't a "lifestyle choice" so I would be sure to note it on your ADR's. I don't think you need to email them but it should be noted on the reservations.

Special Diets did send out lists of commonly used alternatives. We were there in October and I had a list emailed shortly before to go over and cross reference (we have more than Celiac we need to avoid). I ALWAYS still check everything when we got there as well as things can change!

That's good to know that they were still sending lists, at least late last year! I always note wheat/gluten on our ADRs. I actually find the lists the most helpful for quick service and snack stuff. I always want the most updated info, too! I remember how things have changed from trip to trip since the first DX in 2007, so I don't take anything for granted either!

Thanks so much!

I have never actually done that. I am allergic to peanuts, soy, shellfish, tomatoes, and a few other foods. I keep an epipen with me at all times. Sometimes I note the food allergy in the ADR, but if I dont then I mention it to the server (and they ALWAYS ask anyway). If based on what I'm going to order I need to make a certain change or talk to the chef, it's never been a problem.

I have Celiac, and I have never e-mailed special diets about it. Nor would I feel like I need to. They can do gluten free with their eyes closed these days.

I email for my boys because they have multiple but when I've had to avoid wheat I did not find that I needed to give any advanced notice. On our trip we just returned from yesterday they even had an allergy menu that showed safe meals for common allergens. Gluten is a pretty common one and they are used to providing GF meals at this point.

I find it helpful to have a list before I go of where I can find Gluten free options in the park, so I don't go to places and wait in line, only to find out that I need to go somewhere else. So, I still email, though you don't have to. i find it helpful at Hollywood Studios, in particular. And Epcot!
