Does OKW ever seem very busy?

Has anyone ever gone to WDW at an extremely busy time and stayed at OKW? Did it seem busy there or just as relaxing as usual? We may have to reschedule our trip and were wondering about this. We love the relaxation of OKW, and if DH has his way, he might never go to the parks anyways. So for someone not going to the parks, is it still a good idea to avoid the very busy times, or will OKW still feel the same relaxing way?

We were there in Novemeber when it was quite slow. And we were just there over Christmas, and it seemed nearly full. The main difference was that most parking spaces were taken, and Olivia's was much busier. (And buses running a bit more frequently.)

However, the overall atmosphere was still very relaxed. I think OKW handles busy times just fine.

We have gone the last 4 years during "President's Week"(mid Feb) and OKW was 99% capacity and it never seemed over-crowded. Atmosphere always feels the same(laid back) to us.:D

Since OKW has no common area that all guests must pass thru to get to their room, it never seems too busy. As mentioned, you can often judge "how busy" based on the parking lots and even bus stops, but since there is no concentrated area where guests routinely congregate it has always had a "quiet" feel to me- even when at full occupancy.

Enjoy!

I have been there several times when the resort was sold out - Doc & raparker13 the design is great.

Plus this is a big place - it is bigger in land space than the Pop Century - but the PC has thousands of guests - so you will feel crowded.

I also like the layout of POR - it is also a place that you generally don't feel crowded in even with the resort is sold out.

but OKW beats everything hands down - very relaxing!

The only time we notice a "busy" feeling is when we check in, and the line is out the door  . This has happened when we've checked in on Saturday afternoons.

We have been at OKW during the busiest times (including Y2K) and I really can't believe it but it never seems to have that crowded feeling. It can be 99% capacity and you would never know it. As someone said only at check in it gets a little crazy. :Pinkbounc

I agree with what's being said here. We were there Thanksgiving week and the Magic Kingdom was just a sea of people -- we left! But back at good old OKW, it was business as usual, peaceful and quiet and wonderful. There were more cars than usual in the parking spots, and there were always folks at the bus stops. There was a lot of action going on with the bellmen who greet you up front. Turtle Pond Pool was "active" but not crazy, and the quiet pool by Southpoint was as empty as ever. We all remarked repeatedly how nice it was to be at a place that did NOT seem to feel the holiday rush! On our first night we stayed at Riverside, and it was rocking. The food court was so noisy and so was the pool, and I told my husband "I am so glad we are going to OKW tomorrow morning!"

I figure ANY time is a good time to be at Old Key West!
