Does MNSSHP usually start Sept 1?

We went a few years ago when DD was still young enough to pull out of school - she's not a strong enough student to do that now.
We usually vacation end of August, returning for school that starts after Labor Day. Next year Labor Day is very late - Sept 7th! We could conceivably push our vacation I to that first week of Sept!
Do you think the odds are good that there'll be a party that week? Or does Disney start the parties after Labor Day?
An do you think the crowds will be not quite as empty as they typically are for the first week of September due to other schools starting late too?

Hey, I'm wondering the same thing. Sept. 1 was way early for MNSSHP this year I believe, and we didn't go this year, but I want to redo a Labor Day package that was sooo excellent (through an agency whose presence isn't allowed on these boards). I have every intention of booking with them again. I'm in Atlanta, and our schools start in mid-August (!) so the Labor Day thing doesn't matter too much to me except for that package availability--it's their largest discount. I'm going to pull the kids for a couple of days again. I understand needing to halt that at some point. But I'm dying to hear if they're going to schedule one for Labor Day Monday again. :cutie: My guess is, if money is involved and they were profitable starting it on Sept. 1, they would continue. popcorn::

Looking back over the last few years, this was the earliest start to MNSSHP that I saw. The start dates were 9/10/13, 9/11/12, 9/13/11, and 9/14/10.

Thanks - I wasn't sure where to look for the historical data - figured it was easier to ask here.
I hope this is a new policy and not just the one year!

I have MNSSHP dates going back to 2008. But you'd have to look up what date was Labor Day.
2008 Fri Sept 5 - Fri Oct 31
2009 Fri Sept 4 - Sun Nov 1
2010 Tues Sept 14 - Mon Nov 1
2011 Tues Sept 13 - Tues Nov 1
2012 Tues Sept 11 - Fri Nov 2
2013 Tues Sept 10 - Fri Nov 1
2014 Mon Sept 1 - Fri Oct 31
I wouldn't bet on when MNSSHP would begin in 2015. I'm sure Disney will analyze what the early 2014 start meant for attendance and assorted sales, and the cost of the "rush" to get MK decorated for Halloween so early after Summer crowds. If you check this forum on Disboards on May 1st, 2015, the party dates for MNSSHP are usually announced that date every year. That would give you a few months to plan your trip.

They typically start after the night of Joy which is typically the second weekend in sept. This year was a fluke. They also move Food and Wine up two weeks as well so everything was shifted two weeks. Party dates tend to get leaked based on the calendar times in March or April and go on sale May 1, so you should have plenty of time to decide if you want to go that week long before you need to make a decision. Disney is all about making money, so if these two extra weeks make them money, I would expect them to continue the trend.

It's funny to me that so many people complain about how the Christmas season gets stretched to the point that decorations are up and ads are running before Thanksgiving. "Christmas is now a month-long holiday! It's terrible!" And it's hard to argue with that.

But to me, it seems Halloween is the "holiday" taking over the calendar. Having the parks, or anything else, decked out for Halloween for a full TWO MONTHS is flatly absurd.

I'm DVC and the room I usually stay in is very limited, so I book it at the 11 month window. That's goin to be in the next couple of weeks.
So I'll just book into the first week of Sept and if there isn't a party I'll just enjoy the early Sept crowd level.
