Does Le Cellier really live up to the hype?

After doing a search and reading through some older threads, I know that there is a certain crowd that is devoted to Le Cellier. I know that the ressies are tough to get, and rarely given up once gotten. I have tried on past trips to get a ressie, no luck. DH and one of 2 DS's love steak. Myself and other DS...not so much. My questions:

Is it really your must -get reservation?

What does a non-steak eater/vegetarian like myself get? (we do eat fish)

Should I even bother trying to get a res this time?

I'd like to know if it really is as good as everybody says it is as well. I was thinking of making a ADR there next fall for my hubby because last we went he complained he didnt get to have a steak at any of the restaurants we went to. Is it really worth the two dining credits?

I think it depends on who you ask... but we really liked it and are planning on going back our next trip!

We went there last November for the first time during lunch. Did we like it? Yes, it was a decent steak. However I dont get why it's overly talked about.

The only thing we talked about after eating this meal was the smoothies we had. Those things were awesome!

It was our must get ADR last year since we had never eaten there. This November it didn't make the list.

Last time I went there is was only 1 TS credit. I will say that the cheese soup and pretzel bread are to die for...BUT, I can't honestly say I'd be willing to use 2 TS credits to get in there now. Others will disagree...but that's just my opinion. I SO wish they would have some sort of cart where they sold the soup!!

Well, we ate lunch there in may, and REALLY enjoyed it, so I would say yes...I had the burger, and DH had the filet & mushroom risotto...other than the risotto being a bit too salty, everything else was fabulous!

We also ate at Yachtsman steakhouse for dinner, on a trip prior, and found that to be OUTSTANDING.

At lunch they are only charging 1 credit...it's 2 for dinner, is that correct? We like it there, but I wouldn't go for 2 credits :goodvibes

During the food and wine festival, the Canada Kiosk does :cool1:

That's correct.

When we went last year it was still 1 credit for dinner too.

I ate there last year, not sure if it was because our reservation was late(8pm I think) but I wasn't impressed with it. I did however LOVE the Filet at Jiko!:thumbsup2

We really enjoy Le Cellier (and have eaten there on several trips), but it isn't a "must visit" for us (though, to be fair, we haven't yet found a Disney restaurant that's "must visit" under all circumstances).

We've dine here occasionally but have never thought it lives up to the hype. I find their food to be excessively salty (including that cheese soup that so many on here think is the greatest dish at WDW) and they definitely don't know how to prepare a rare steak.

We have always had very good service; the CMs here are nice, especially considering they deal with a packed house every day of the week.

So if it's easy to get a reservation, we go once in awhile but I certainly wouldn't keep checking and checking, hoping for an opening. It's just not that good.

Agree that you should give it a try at lunch... gives you a taste without sacrificing 2 TS Credits. Then you can decide if it's worth it!

It is good, a great meal. However it would not be worth 2 credits to our family. Dh told me his steak was better at Sanaa the last time. He was almost licking the plate clean.

Sanaa: New York Strip - served with warm Potato and Spinach Salad, Tomato, and Golden Raisin Chutney $28.99

Le Cellier: Canadian Prime New York Strip - 12 ounce strip steak with Gruyere-Yukon Gold Potato-Gratin, wilted spinach, and vin rouge reduction $42.00

IF you have never gone check it out for lunch. I love the cheese soup with a Pretzel bread stick for an appetizer. But also check out Sanaa, the bread service is to die for!!!! My major dislike for Le Cellier is how the tables seem to be on top of each other!

DH and I love LeCellier, though we have not been there in like 4 years because we could not get in, however this time we managed to get a cancellation on one of the nights we are going and completely re-arranged everything else so we could go. unfortunately most of our trips are last minute so we were unable to get in.

as for it being worth 2 dining credits this is the first time with the dining plan for us so we are doing it, hopefully its just as wonderful as we remember.

We had dinner here back in January for the very first time.
It was a nice meal. The pretzel bread was our favorite thing.
The steak was ok. I live in Texas so I can't say it was over the top.
We have had far better cuts of steak here at home.
I think we did go because of all the hype. The atmosphere is lovely.
Our server was fun and shared some info about where he was from in Canada, but overall I would have to say that the "hype" was just that, hype.
I believe that we are pretty fair in this assessment, however, I do know that there are folks that would beg to disagree.
I think it is a place to go if you have never been... and you enjoy the Disney feel of a themed restaurant. Have at it one time. You won't be disappointed.

I feel like a broken record saying this everytime someone asks about le cellier, but here it goes again: I still dont understand the hype of this place. I've had the "famous and oh so heavenly to die for" soup, and pretzel bread sticks...neither knocked my socks off. I didnt really care for it. I had better soup from tim horton's at lunch today. And it was a potato bacon soup! Yum! :) I think the soup at Biergarten (Cr.of cauliflower) is far better than the one at le cellier, and they have pretzel bread too!
I also wasnt impressed with the steak. I thought, WTH, this is their famous steak??? WHY!? I make a better steak at home! It was rather bland and pretty fatty (I had the ny strip). Not a very good cut of steak. Maybe if i ordered the filet i would have thought different? I know one thing thou, I wouldnt go back.

If you want a good steak, go to a steak house in your home town. Or try Yachtsman, Shula's, or California Grill. im sure they have better cuts of meat. I had the most outstanding steak at California Grill last week. Oh dear Lord, it was DEVINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend it.

Having said that, if your curious then go ahead and try it and form your own opinion. Either way im sure you'll have a fabulous trip!! :goodvibes

I think part of the hype comes from it being a "meat and potatoes" place, versus weird French food or, heaven forbid, Moroccan! Honestly, how many "picky eater" threads are there on here? So it's safe, and the food is decent for a theme park restaurant that is packed all day. But as someone else mentioned, you're practically sitting on your neighbor's lap.

It's funny how this thread repeats every two weeks or so, and you get the same three classes of responses--"place was heavenly", "meh", or "not only is it hyped to the moon, I can make better food at home."

It was the best meal of our trip. Yes, it's salty: that's Canada for you. Many of our grocery foodstuffs are specially formulated for the Canadian market: more salt. If that doesn't faze you--

Really, with any place that's "must do", I have to remind myself to forget everything I've heard before I eat/experience. I managed to do that with Le Cellier and I loved it. Didn't manage to do it with Soarin', which everybody and his pet dog told me I had to do, and was extremely underwhelmed.

Does Le Cellier really live up to the hype?

1) Things that DO live up their hype (and never disappoint)
. . . View from the Rim of the Grand Canyon
. . . First Sight of Your New Baby
. . . Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia

2) Things that DO NOT live up to their hype
. . . Le Cellier
. . . Reruns of Laverne and Shirley
