Does Le Cellier really live up to the hype?

I ate there after it went "Signature"

All Disney did was "raise the prices" Service, atmosphere and food no change.

Food is Ok, but not "to die" for. And for what you pay it's VERY overpriced (even by Disney standards!) Not going to waste my money again!

For the same price you can eat well at Bistro in France! For less money you can eat well at any number of resturants in Epcot!

We really liked it at one time and it WAS a must-do on each trip but our last two visits were not good (Steaks were EXTREMELY salty). We skipped it last year and do not plan to return this year. I can think of better places to eat for 2 TS....We're actually going to try the Yachstman's steakhouse this year and can't wait!

I'm just saying, they did make quite a few improvements to the menu. Salad app with lobster, scallop appetizer, the strip steak is now prime (just like Yachtsman), they added a ribeye, halibut, Pacific king salmon, for a while duck and venison were available as entrees, etc. Some dishes didn't change at all (mushroom filet, soup, etc), but to say they changed nothing on the menu is a bit much.

I like Le Cellier, and I think the mushroom filet with truffle butter is one of the best single dishes available for 1 credit on the DDP. I love the taste of truffle - some people don't, because it slightly tastes like mushroom. I don't think Le Cellier is an outstanding restaurant overall, but it holds up well in comparison to many of the more generic 1-TS locations. In fact, our most recent Le Cellier dinner had better food than California Grill. So in that vein, I think both lunch and dinner are worth the price for us, since California Grill costs way more and served us more underwhelming food.

We haven't tried Le Cellier for dinner on the 2 credits yet. However for Lunch and when it used to be 1 credit it has never disappointed us. Always a Perfect Meal!

I really didn't think the steaks were up to the hype. It's all about the pretzel bread and the starters. I really liked our server though, he was really nice and told us some cool stuff about Canada. I think the good service and the pretzel bread were the most memorable things for me.

It was good. Comparable to the better-than-average-but-not-great steakhouses you can find in any city of reasonable size.

IMO, there are many other equally worthy restaurants in Epcot. I will not lose sleep if I can't get back in for a while.

The dinner menu did have some more ambitious items when they first switched. They seem to have slid back some. But the venison dish I had opening week this past March was really quite good---but it appears to be gone.

We had the DxDP last trip, so we decided we'd finally try it out since we had some extra credits to burn. We live in Texas and are picky steak people so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was informed pre-trip that the meat quality doesn't change between lunch and dinner, so lunch it was!!!

I know everyone raves about the filet, and while it was good, it was a FAR CRY from best steak of my life good. The quality was on par with something you might find at an Outback Steakhouse. DH got the strip and also really enjoyed it...but once again, he agreed that his steak would have been a serious disappointment if it was labeled as fine dining steak. i.e. this is no signature meal.

The pretzel bread and cheese soup were very tasty, but there was something about the soup- can't quite put my finger on it - that didn't seem fresh. It was somewhere between the starchy lumpy quality you find in Campbell's canned cream soups and a cheese dish where the oil starts to separate. The flavor was still good, but like I said- something was off.

Would we go back- sure, but only for lunch. I would never dream of spending dinner prices or using 2 credits on this meal.

We had lunch here...loved the warm breadsticks and epcot butter! I also LOVEDDDD my filet mingion! It was perfect..never tasted a steak that good! The only bad part is the seating. We were so close to our neighbors it was very uncomfortable especially having two kids when our neighbors were trying to have a nice relaxing meal. They need to expand !

I feel like a broken record saying this everytime someone asks about le cellier, but here it goes again: I still dont understand the hype of this place. I've had the "famous and oh so heavenly to die for" soup, and pretzel bread sticks...neither knocked my socks off. I didnt really care for it. I had better soup from tim horton's at lunch today. And it was a potato bacon soup! Yum! :) I think the soup at Biergarten (Cr.of cauliflower) is far better than the one at le cellier, and they have pretzel bread too!
I also wasnt impressed with the steak. I thought, WTH, this is their famous steak??? WHY!? I make a better steak at home! It was rather bland and pretty fatty (I had the ny strip). Not a very good cut of steak. Maybe if i ordered the filet i would have thought different? I know one thing thou, I wouldnt go back.

If you want a good steak, go to a steak house in your home town. Or try Yachtsman, Shula's, or California Grill. im sure they have better cuts of meat. I had the most outstanding steak at California Grill last week. Oh dear Lord, it was DEVINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend it.

Having said that, if your curious then go ahead and try it and form your own opinion. Either way im sure you'll have a fabulous trip!! :goodvibes

I agree. It wasn't worth the huge, especially if it is now or going to be a signature restaurant. I thought the food was ok & had better streak elsewhere. Tonys & Le chefs, Tutto Italia, are our fave places. That being said everyone is different so try it out. Never know until u try :-)

I ate that dinner menu. yes I admit it has some fancy sounding stuff....

But the food tasted just like the lunch food :) The steak was not any better then a steak at Outback Steakhouse IMHO. They claim it's "prime" etc, but.. I had a "prime" steak at GIbson's in Chicago a few weeks ago and trust me Le Celliers only came close in one area.... price!

Plus a 'Signature' should not have you sitting on top of the other guests etc... IMHO it's "put some fancy names on the menu", raise the prices and continue to let folks throw money at us.

I have given it LOTS of chances because of the hype. I finally went "hype or not it's not that good IMHO" I think it's a victim of it's own success. It used to be great, but then it got super popular and they are "fast food" cranking back there and the quality suffers.

One of the reasons we have yet to try it is because most of the complaints are the same - too salty & mediocre steaks. I get that people have great meals and not so great meals at all the WDW restaurants. Seriously the one thing WDW restaurants are consistent at is that they are very inconsistent. But when the complaints are similar it makes me pay attention. I expect we will try it someday but not yet.

I have enjoyed my meal at Le Cellier every time that I have gone there. It is not the most amazing steak I've had in my life, but it's good, and I really like the pretzel bread.

That being said, when I went this last March, just a week after they changed it to a signature restaurant...I did it, and I did the two credits, thinking it would be REALLY amazing now.

It was not. I would never go for dinner again.

I would probably go for lunch, because the food is the same, and I could have a good steak and pretzel bread, but it is NOT worth 2 credits for dinner. IMO.

I really enjoyed it when we went (2 years ago now) but for 2 TS credits it didn't hold a candle to Yachtsman, or most of the other signatures we've been to. Now take that with a grain of salt - as I haven't had the new menu and one would assume it was upgraded with the change.

My family really likes Le Cellier. We have been there twice and were lucky to get a lunch reservation for our trip later this month. It is hard to get into, but we always try to get an ADR because it's definitely one of our favorite Disney restaurants. We have been to lunch and dinner, both were great, but we are going to stick with lunch now that they have gone to signature status for dinner.

Previous posters have mentioned the smoothies, they are excellent. I also like the pretzel bread and cheese soup, and the filet is my favorite. I would give it a try, I am so glad we did!

We have gone to Le Cellier every trip since 2002. It is the cheese soup, pretzel bread, and mushroom filet that brings me back. My kids, now both teens, feel the same way. Dh otoh, always orders the NY strip, and probably wouldn't miss it if we left it off of our itinerary (he doesn't do soup, mushrooms, or risotto).

All that said, we will now only do lunch here. Why spend more (credits or cash) for the same food?

Oh, and the meals I have had here are substantially better than at any Outback I have been to.

We went for lunch during Food and Wine festival last year.

* food was good. I had the steak salad. The steak was very good, but not the best I've ever eaten. The salad was fresh and tasty, so that gives some hope for your vegetarian dining.
* wine list wasn't as diverse or as interesting as we'd hoped. We love wine, but actually chose not to order any after reviewing the menu.
* service was embarassing. We felt rushed. We also dined at Citricos and Chefs de France during that same trip, and the service at Le Cellier was the most uninspiring.

I don't think there is much hype about Le Cellier any more. Now it is pretty much backlash. People using the same sort of rhetoric and over-the-top proclamations about how terrible it is.

It is still what it has always been - an excellent Disney restaurant. Go in with the proper expectations, which are that this isn't a Shula's.

I like when people say that it isn't any better than an Outback. Guess what? That makes it one of the best Disney restaurants! Most Disney restaurants don't even achieve Applebees levels.

We really enjoyed our lunch there this past August. The bread was very yummy as were our stecks & burgers. We did not feel the soup was all that great & it was very filling. We will definitely eat lunch there again.
