Title says it all...

Thinking of getting pb & j supplies when we go to santas village next week (their food prices rival Disney and it's gross)... Plus I was thinking maybe * maybe* we can do pb&j in Disney for breakfast a couple of days...

Thanks!!

Yes, in order to preserve freshness, so if I were you, I'd buy packets of jelly to use.

It would be really hot, so I wouldn't take a chance without a cooler with some ice. The jars all say to refrigerate after opening.

See if you can find small cups or squeeze pouches of jelly. I've seen them in some store; they're bigger than the little square cups you see in restaurants.

Lol am I going to get a 50-50 split on answers from my Dis friends, like I have from my IRL friends?? Haha... Thanks for responses so far!

ETA: we would make sandwiches before leaving the room... The jar wouldn't be coming out to the parks...

I'd keep the jar somewhere cool (fridge, cooler), but I don't think you need ice packs for pp&j sandwiches.

I'm so jelous- I love Santa's Village! We went a few times when we lived in NY, but now we are too far away!
It never gets really hot at that park, there are so many trees and cooler temps in NH. I think the jelly would be fine.

Growing up, we never refrigerated our jams or jellies. Every once in a while, the less popular flavor would end up growing mold - but we're talking weeks of being open, plus I wonder how many times it was because somebody used the knife for something else before putting it into the jelly.

Now, we refrigerate them all...but if we go on a road trip and take a jar along with us, we don't worry about it for the few days it's out of refrigeration.

It wouldn't hurt to put some ice in the ice bucket in the hotel room and keep the jelly in there until you make your sandwich. Once your sandwich is made, then it woulnd't hurt being in your bag all day. :thumbsup2

Just had to say we will be at Santas Village and storyland next week. Thanks for the head's up on the food at S.V.!

My nana and mom never refrigerated their jelly. The high sugar content, lack of oxygen, and low available water in jelly means bacteria really won't grow, although mold eventually will grow on the surface... if there's any mold around and it's given long enough to grow. I wouldn't worry about it, for the length of time you are talking about.

I took one course over half a summer in SC once. My dorm room did not have a/c, and food services was closed over the weekends (it was a private 2 year college...most people were 17-20 and went home for weekends), so I had pb&j in my dorm room for the weekends. It lasted even 4 day weekends in those conditions...I'm sure yours will survive in an a/c room.

You didn't ask about the peanut butter? I always refrigerate the open jar...what does everyone else do? :confused3

I've never refrigerated PB... it stays in the bread drawer :goodvibes

Thanks for all the responses!!

DisneyandRedSox - we are taking our lunches both days (we're doing storyland one day then santas village the next) ... I can't rationalize the $$ for the food. Storyland's food was ok, but still pricey for what you got. Santa's was gross, and pricey!!

How about buying the PB and Jelly in the jar alrady together. I am almost positive it does not say anthing about being refrigerated after opening, I took this with me to Disney one year for 1 week and did not have any problems

I've never put PB in the fridge. Plus it gets kind of hard. And I also leave jam/jelly out every once in a while, from 1-5 days, and it's always fine.

We were at Santa's Village last week. I agree about the food... very greasy, but without actually making it crispy. We always pack some of the packaged peanut butter and cracker things along with a few pieces of fresh fruit.

Not sure if you have looked at their website, but they have a deal where you can go in w/in 3 hours of closing and return for a full day any other day of the season.

They also have a new water park. Lots of water sprayers and self-contained water slides. You might want to bring your own towels, as the only ones available they are charging $12.

Have fun.

I would use the ice bucket to fill with ice and put the jar in the middle to keep chilled.

It probably won't spoil at room temp in a weeks time. My grandma used to leave hers out all the time. HOWEVER I'd get packets if you can, that is a good idea. :thumbsup2

The above suggestion is good too.
