Does it really take up to 30 days? Updated 4/27-We're in!

Hi everyone! Sorry I didn't get the chance to update again yesterday. So as I said, I tried to call yesterday morning starting at 9am until I had to leave the house at 10:30, and continuously got a busy signal. I tried again when I got home, around 3:30, no busy signal, chose option 2 for MA, then chose option 3 for no particular reason, lol, and a very nice castmember named Debra answered right away. I explained my situation, said we had closed approximately two weeks ago, and that I was hoping she could help me, as my seven month window was coming up in a few days and I needed to make reservations. She was very helpful. She never asked if it was a direct or resale purchase. All she needed was my name, address & phone number, deed number, seller's name, and that was it. She gave me my membership number, my new contract number which is slightly different, & my Club ID. She then transferred me to MS, and that very nice castmember, can't remember her name, gave me my activation code and walked me through signing on and making sure everything was working correctly. All my points were there! Unfortunately, there was not much to choose from at my home resort, AKV, for the time frame we are looking to go, the first week of December. We need a two bedroom. There was full availability at SSR & CC, but can't book those until the 1st of May. I'm hoping more opens up at AKV during the first two weeks of December once people can switch over to CC and anywhere else they're waiting for at the seven month mark. I forget, can someone who knows tell me if I have to wait for my full week to be in the seven month window before I can book, or just arrival day? You would think I wouldn't have forgotten this in just three years since we sold our two direct contracts. Our recording date was 4/13/2017, for those who want to know.

There was availability at Kidani mid second week into the third, not what I really wanted. My other sticking point is that our resale has points expiring on December 1st. 8 -2016 points and 26 -banked points from 2015. We really don't want to take a trip between now & December 1st since I'm taking a Girls' Trip next week with rented points, so kind of wanted to save some money for the trip in December. Contemplating renting the points. We could always stay at SSR, but with two little guys going who will be 3 & 5 at the time of the trip, I just don't think SSR will be that thrilling for them. Decisions, decisions!

Congratulations & welcome home! Did you put in waitlist(s) at AKV for your December dates? You never know when someone might decide to make a change. Good luck!

You can book up to 7 nights when the window opens for your arrival date.

Have fun planning!

Thank you, Carol! I didn't put in a waitlist because I thought I had to have something booked first. Do I? I'm so confused as to what to do. I was just going to go ahead and book the Kidani Savannah view that's available Dec 8-15, and then waitlist the 1-8, but I can't use the banked points on the 8-15th reservation, and I would want them used on the 1-8 reservation, and don't know how that would be worked out.

Or should I just book the 8th-15th, and then on May 1st try to get what I want for Dec 1-8?

You do NOT need to have a reservation booked to set up (use) a waitlist. My advice is to put in two waitlists for your preferred dates right now. You have several choices for the 2 bedroom - Kidani savanna, Jambo savanna, Kidani standard, Jambo standard, etc. I would not waitlist for either value or concierge because there are so few of them.

Since your dates are somewhat flexible, I wouldn't book the 8-15th now. No one but another AKV owner can book those until later in May, (unless someone is going to walk for those rooms and odds of that are relatively small).

Better to keep your points available to use online as soon as the 7 month window opens on May 1. Keep an eye on the RAT to see what resorts are available and then decide which of those you will try to book online on May 1. That reservation can be your back up in case the AKV waitlist doesn't work out. (I'm assuming AKV is what you really want). Keep looking throughout the day on May 1 - as you say, there may be openings that pop up as other members switch around. Some will certainly switch to CCV, or maybe you want to try for that. You could be lucky since you want a 2 bedroom. Most of the CCV switchers seem to want studios.

Good luck!

I can't thank you enough for that great advice! Going to book two waitlists right now! :flower3:

Latest update - I just called again. Everyone has been very helpful today. But, it does look like the system needs a night to process the data once the deed transfer takes place. I was able to get my Club ID and Member # today, but still no generated Activation Code. The last CM I spoke with did mention that I should get an email when that is ready. I'll call again in the morning. Hopefully, this little journey will be complete tomorrow.

Update to the update to the update --- I'm Done!! Got everything set up and points were loaded. Jillian Lopez You should definitely call today if you have time. I would bet you are good to go.

See ya Real Soon! :mickeyjum

Another little update, I received my member # in the mail today. So, recorded 4/10, called and set everything up 4/24, member # in the mail 4/27.
And I'm in Southern California, if anyone is looking at mail times.

Thanks for this update. I'm in the SF Bay Area and closed on 4/12. You reaffirm that new members are receiving their letters in less than 3 weeks from close. I only plan on calling when I receive my letter or at the 3 week mark, whichever is sooner... I'll be happy to wait 2 more days!

The 2015 banked points and 2016 points (I'm assuming which were not banked) actually expire Dec 1 2017. They must be used for a stay no later than Nov 30th 2017. So they can't be used for a stay Dec 1-Dec 8 2017

Check on the RAT online for the dates you want @ AKV often. You never know when something will open up, for example, I just canceled my 12/15-19 Kidani 1 br. Savanna view because I just bought my VGF points & booked a villa there instead. A couple of years ago when I was trying to string together a multi day VGF stay for Dec. after 7 months I checked online 3X a day (morning, noon and night) and gradually pieced together a stay. Patience and persistence is the name of the game.

What? Oh no! Thank you for clearing that up! Ugh. Now I have to rethink everything all over again.

As of today, it's been 10 days since my deed was recorded (11 days since email received)... Since it looks like people have had luck 10 days post-deed, I'm going to give it a shot today. Stay tuned!!

Yay! We did it! Officially booked our first DVC stay in September! Super slim pickings so we are stuck at Saratoga but that's ok cuz then I can check it off my list. My goal is to try them all :)

I was kind of wondering what availability would be out there. We are supposed to get closing docs next week, so guessing points around June 1. I had thought if something was open we might do a 3 night stay in Oct for DD6 birthday and take in MNSSHP for first time. I'm guessing trying for a weekend and only 4 months out odds are very slim for studio or 1 bed.

Well, I just booked a 5 night stay in September at SSR, standard studio, September 16-21 , after okaying it with my husband, in order to use up the 34 extra points that came with the contract, 24 banked from Dec 2015, and 8 from Dec 2016, that were all expiring this Nov 30th. In order to complete the stay, I had to borrow some points from my December 2017 point allocation, which means if for some reason I cancel this September trip, now I have 58 points I would need to use by November 30th. This December use year is a PIA! I really liked my previous Oct use year on our two contracts that we sold. Oh well. This contract had so many other good things about it. I'll make it work. Just have to change my mindset a little. Now when I book our December trip, I'm going to need to borrow a few points from 2018. Can't believe I'm already in the borrowing cycle, lol! Thank you again, @CMNJ!
