I am getting ready to book my 2nd cruise with Disney and while i was looking at the sight yesterday i came across the specials page which conicedentally happens to be one of the weeks we are planning to go on the cruise. Anyway the special is for Deck 2 in a catergory 12 room.

So first question is, does it matter if you are on deck 2 or 5 or 6 or whatever?

and 2nd question is, is there a difference between catergory 11 and 12 rooms?

any help would be greatly appreciatted

thanks

I am glad to be on any deck.
Some decks may be better than others for different reason.
I am just glad to be onboard.

oh of course but do you feel the water motion any differently on different decks

There is very little difference in motion between the decks or between forward, aft, and midship in my opinion. There are people who feel differently, but it's really not enough to turn down a good deal.

As far as differences between a cat 11 and 12, I believe it's only the location (12 is lower decks, 11 is higher). I think 11 and 12s only sleep 3 people, and they are a bit smaller than the cat 5-10 rooms. 11 and 12s also have a single bathroom, while the 5-10s have a "split" bathroom, with the shower-bath and a sink in one and the toilet and a 2nd sink in the other.

Good luck.

There is defintely a difference in motion between forward, mid and aft. It becomes more pronounced with rougher seas...but i can tell the difference even in 4 foot swells. I've seen differing opinions on deck level. I go the highest deck I can afford but regardless of which deck the closer to midship the less motion you'll feel.

Deck 5 is definately mid-ship.

We have stayed on Deck 2 several times loved the location, even after saying on Decks 8, 7, 6 & 5.

Midship typically refers to front, back or middle as opposed to how high or low the deck is. The highest deck with guest staterooms on Disney is deck 8 and the lowest is deck 1. In 36 cruises, we've stayed on almost every deck. I find the most motion to be forward, but not enough to bother you unless you are very sensitive. The upper decks usually have more motion than the lower ones...think of an upside down pendulum. But really, in my opinion, anywhere is good as long as it's on the ship! My personal favorite is deck 5 aft.

What I have experienced, and what most others report is that motion tends to be felt more the higher the deck and the more forward you are. This makes sense. I don't think that I can describe it, but you have to think about any boat, moving forward and encountering waves. The front part of the ship will lift more than the rear, and the top will have more movement than the bottom.

Overall, I don't know that I would make the motion element a huge factor in my selection of a room. I think that if seas are rough you will feel it everywhere (and if you are going to be sick you are going to be sick) and my plans are for the worst so I would take Bonine as a preventative measure.

I worried, before cruising, that the ship was so huge that I would be in a bad spot and it would take forever to get where we needed to be. That just wasn't the case. It seemed easy to get everywhere and while some locations might be somewhat more convenient depending on what you plan to do on the ship, there isn't a "bad spot" that I could see!

Okay so here is the way i look at it...from a 17 year old mind.
You don't really spend THAT much time in your state room, at least from my first experience. I really only used it for sleeping and a storage place for my stuff. There is so much stuff to do that it is SO hard to get everything done. In my opinion don't waste the money for something that you wont really use all that much, espically if you are trying to save money(its already expensive enough!). At least thats what happened to me, i stayed on deck two and fully enjoyed it.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

The only difference between 11 and 12 is which deck it is on. We usually book an 11 or 12 gty room, and frequently get upgraded. The only caution on deck 2 is not to be right under the nightclubs. We like deck 2, we love 5 aft. We've been all over, in cat 6 to 12....really you spend so little time in the cabin that I don't find it to be a big deal.

DD likes the window and balcony, but I've pointed out that I can book a 12 gty 4 times for the cost of the cat 1 suite she craves....and she agrees that 4 trips are better (hee hee)

Is deck 5 considered mid ship??
It is only if you are in the middle of the ship when "looking at it" from front to back.

The Magic and Wonder are big ships with many decks and the terminology can help you find your way around a little easier.

Terminolgy lesson
Forward is the front of the ship
Mid Ship is the middle of the ship
Aft is the back end of the ship

Starboard is the right hand side of the ship (when facing forward)
Port is the left hand side of the ship (when facing forward)

Deck 1 is the lowest passenger deck on the ship (decks A, B, C and D are below deck 1 and are crew only areas). Deck 1 is also where you will disembark the ship when in port (except at the terminal at port canaveral)
Deck 8 is the highest deck with staterooms
Deck 9 is the "fun in the sun" deck with the pools, ping pong, topsiders/BBB restaurant along with many other fast food and drink outlets.
Deck 10 is the swimming pool overlook deck along with the sports court.
Deck 11 is "The Stack" on the Magic (teen hang out) and on the Wonder its the ESPN Skybox

So when you see something in the navigator that you want to participate in, it will tell you the location name and you have to know where that location is.

If you want to go to Beat Street (Magic) / Route 66 (Wonder) its on deck 3 Forward. Going to Animators pallet, its deck 4 aft. Want to shoot some hoops, the sports court is deck 10 forward. The family club, Studio Sea is deck 4 mid ship. The Oceaneers Lab is deck 5 forward and the Oceaneers Club is deck 5 Mid ship. Etc, etc, etc.

There are lifts (elevators) and stairways forward, mid and aft. Stateroom numbers are 4 digits. First digit (1000's position) is the deck number. Second digit (100's position) is a 0 or 1 on the Port side and 5 or 6 on the Starboard side. The 10's and 1's positions is your room number. The numbers are ascending from forward to aft. So you know you are aft if the 100's position is a 1 or 6.

I not only want Deck 5 AFT - but I book only for a specific room (5622) - guess it does matter a great deal to me!
