Does It Matter What Day You Fly?

I know that when I first started flying there were better days to book flights, price wise. Is that still true? Is it cheaper to fly out one day or another?

Sometimes, but not always flying on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday will offer some savings.

I'm not sure which airline you are looking at, but I know when I booked our flights on Song, they had a "better fare finder" that show the rates for up to 3 days before and 3 days after your selected dates. A friend of mine was looking to go away for April vacation, and the reates were sky high for Saturday/Sunday travel, but she was flexible with her dates and was able to get a great rate flying out on Monday evening and returning the following Tuesday instead.

I'm guessing it may depend on the airline. I can say that Southwest lately has been lower if you fly on Tues, Wed, or Sat.

It is usually easier to book cheaper flights in general on SWA if you are not flying on a weekend or holiday. It was impossible for us to get cheap fares on Monday July 4 from MCO to BDL; we had better luck getting a cheap fare on the 5th. I booked the day the schedule opened.

If you are flexible with your dates you can usually snag a good rate.

I had always heard Fri, afternoon, and eve, was bad.

But I saved a bundle, flying from Ind to MCO, on Fri. Around $30/person. That was enough to justify the extra night hotel, and start our first day at the parks, nice and fresh, rather than wore out from flying all morning.

I am waffling about going Friday after DS gets out of school or early Saturday morning and there is no difference in price. The "fare finder" says that this is the lowest fare available, so for us it won't matter. On Expedia there is a thing you can click that will show you the whole month and the lowest fare. Strangely the lowest fare in October is on Halloween! But we need to come home the week before so that didn't help us.

Just an FYI, it is $5 cheaper per ticket to book directly through American than it is to book the exact same tickets through Expedia.
