Does it bother you when…

someone in your household is using their phone/tablet and has the volume up while watching random videos, without using headphones?

I know that many people don’t want to hear what strangers are watching if they’re out and about on the plane or sitting in the doctor’s office, etc. But if you and your partner/child are chilling in your family room, does it bother you to hear their devices?

Yes. Sometimes I’ll have my 3 granddaughters over and they won’t have headphones with them and they’re all watching something different. It drives me nuts. I always wear headphones when I’m watching videos on my tablet so I don’t disturb my husband while he’s watching tv.

Last night when we were in the car DH was talking on the phone with the speaker on. Nice phone, but it sounded tinny and was making some kind of weird electronic feedback noise. He got the evil eye and quickly ended the call. When I get tired, the ears become super-sensitive.

My husband has bluetooth ear buds he uses all the time. He could be watching youtube videos and the only reason I know is because he starts laughing.

I have bluetooth (though they have a backup cord) headphones that I can use as well.

It's common courtesy to not listen to something on phone/tablet/computer with sounds for all to hear unless that's the point.

It doesn't really bother me.

What I find amazing though is when my in laws have their phones connected via bluetooth to their hearing aids and I am sitting 10 feet away and can clearly hear what is playing on their phone, through their hearing aid.

DH works from home and will put his conference calls on speaker. It's not too bad when he is in his home office with the door shut. Currently, he has set up shop on the couch and is on a call on speaker in the middle of everything. Not amused.

Doesn't bother me at all. Never been an issue in our household.

Yes. My mom was the primary (OG) culprit. She will even blare her FB videos when we're out to dinner. And giggle while watching. Annoys the crap out of me as we should be conversing instead. How rude! LOL. DH always hated it (complained when she'd do it) and if I accidentally scroll through FB and somehow the video sounds are on and play, he always snips at me (if we're in public...guess he doesn't want me to annoy strangers). And I never mean to (don't watch videos, just scroll through the feed). Funny thing, now he does it on the sofa all the time...watches videos with volume up. While we're watching TV. I think it's pretty ironic and it annoys me.

Never happens here. Neither husband or I really watch anything on our phones - that's what big screen tvs are for lol.

If he wants to watch something different he goes to the basement to use the tv down there.
Teens have earpods but are mostly in their rooms.

It doesn't happen here too often. My aunt doesn't even turn up the volume on her computer when she's playing a game or watching a video on her phone. I do the same when I'm downstairs with my phone and so does my cousin. When the little one is here with his iPad he has the volume up a little, but it doesn't bother anyone.

Yes. It bothers me a lot. We have earbuds for a reason. Use them!

I think the issue is how shrill mobile phone and tablet speakers are. If they sounded like a TV, I wouldn't care.

Not at all bothered, in fact, the content would need to be a significant problem for it to even register on my radar. My ability to deliberately ignore and focus as I choose is sort of a superpower and I tend to be mystified by people who notice everything all the time, it seems like it would be exhausting.

I'm always paying music & no-one seems to care at all, if do they notice they tend to enjoy my DJ skills ;)
