Does it annoy anyone else...

...that you now seemingly MUST have a £1 coin to hand if you want to use a trolley at the supermarket?

I had to change a £20 note today. The cashier rolled her eyes. I also waited in line for 10 minutes to do this.

I need to get one of those things on key chains that fit the trolley slots. :headache:

I have got a trolley coin - it is probably one of the most useful presents I've ever been given :thumbsup2

Me too, it's attached to my bag, so I never need a pound coin (not that I need one at our Asda)

It is annoying though

I believe a 25c US quarter works just as well as a £ coin, or at least it does at the airport!

Claire ;)

My trolley coins always seem to come off the keyring and get lost :confused3.
Also a couple of times people have had a go at me because they'll try and take my trolley when I'm taking it back and give me £1 for it and when I try to explain, it isn't a £1 its a re-usable coin, if they haven't heard of them before they think I'm being sarcastic or obsessive compulsive :rotfl:. Another time I was walking to get a trolley as one woman was taking hers back and all of a sudden she grabbed her trolley like she was "protecting her young" and said "You can't have mine - there's a SPECIAL coin in it". So I waved my "SPECIAL" coin right back at her and explained I wasn't headed for her trolley! Thinking about it they seem to be more bother than they are worth! But I do hate it when you don't have one and you get to the trolley bay and realise you have no change. I nearly gave myself a heart attack once trying to do a big shop using one hand basket .

Me too. I keep in on my key ring and since I always have my car with me, I never forget it.

I wonder what would happen if you had no pound coin or any other cash on you and went to customer service to see if they would lend you a pound for a trolley :)

I always need 3 pound coins. 1 for the trolley (our asda needs £1 for both large and small trolleys) plus we have to paay £2 to park (altough we get this back of our shopping bill at the end)

Really annoys me as i try to save my £1 coins for my terramundi :)

They drive me mad cause when ever i pop to morrisons i never seem to have a £1 coin for them, thankfully I do most of my shopping at Tesco and their trolleys don't need the £1

I have a trolley coin as I was constantly forgetting to bring a pound coin. I usually shop at Sainsburys which is one of the very few supermarkets in Liverpool that still uses that system, most of the others just have a device that disables the wheels when a trolley is taken a certain distance away.

It can be frustrating, out of the four places I shop in my local area, only one (sainsburys) uses the coin system and I have to pay to park there too (and it isn't refunded).
I don't go there often, but I keep a pound in the car and even I surprise myself that I seem to remember to put it back for the next time. Rarely do I shop without going in my car, so it works for me.

At our local supermarket, they have a 'dummy' coin they will let you use if you haven't got change for a trolley :thumbsup2

The only places that use this system locally are the new Sainsburys and Marks and Spencer. I didn't have any money at all in M&S a few weeks ago, so I just got an attendant to release one for me. At Sainsburys yesterday, I got to thinking how annoying it is whilst grappling with my 14 month old Grandson on one arm and trying to release the trolley with the other. It was even worse trying to retrieve the pound coin! Still, I also couldn't help thinking how much nicer it is not to have a car park littered with abandoned trolleys. People are unbelievably lazy.

I once lost one of the key ring tokens when it got stuck in an M&S trolley. My current one (which is on the key ring of the car which I wasn't driving yesterday) doesn't work in every trolley. I always try to make sure that I have a pound coin in my purse, but Matt's got a habit of "borrowing" it.

I actually think the £1 coin trolley thing is a good idea - keeps the trolley's where they are supposed to be instead of wheeling their way across the car park banging into cars.
You will always get someone who just leaves them in the middle of nowhere.
Just leave a coin in your car that's what we do.

I like it when someone comes up to you after you have emptied the shopping into your car and gives you a pound to save them messing around, an old couple were insulted the other week when I asked them for £2 claiming 'my' trolley was a special edition version. ;)

:)

A mixture of shock and disgust in this instance.

I have tried it a few times to see what reaction I get, try it yourself, go with the 'this trolley has go faster stripes' scenario.
