I need to blow up some balloons for an event on Monday night, but will be out of town all weekend. I was planning of picking up a small "party" size helium tank from the party store near midway airport on Friday The problem is, I will be leaving my car outside from Friday till Sunday, and the temperatures are expected to hover around 20' all weekend. Is it safe to leave a helium tank in the trunk of my car for 3 days in freezing weather?

BTW - If there are any Thompson supporters in Chicago who want to come to our event on Monday, drop me a PM!

I don't know if it freezes, but I do know that ballons will deflate once in the cold then reinflate once they are warm again. I had this happen once. It was pretty cool. :thumbsup2 We kept taking it outside then coming back in just to watch it. It doesn't take much to amuse me. :goodvibes

Helium liquifies at only a few degrees above absolute zero. If your car ever got this cold, your balloons would be the least of your worries! ;)

:rotfl:, I thought we were the only ones who did things like that!

I just asked my husband is who is a doctoral candidate for chemistry and here was his answer:

"Everything can freeze but you will be hard pressed in your life time even to see liquid helium."

So I guess the answer is no.:thumbsup2
