Is the garden view considered the standard view/ the cheapest room at the Polynesian? Thinking of an upgrade from POR but the difference is close to $1000 and just checking all my options first. I searched the FAQ quickly but couldn't find the answer. Thanks!

$1000 for how many nights? I don't know what kind of view you had for POR, but the "standard" GV room we had this year had a view that was awesome! While we could not see the castle, we could stand on the balcony and see the GF and part of the lagoon! Now, to me, that's a lagoon view, but we were charged for a GV....

Our reservations are for 4 nights w/ King Bed at POR including park tickets with hopping option+ insurance = 1358.84
Poly would be $2378.74.

Keep in mind that the views can vary greatly from longhouse to longhouse. Do some research on longhouse locations, and request GV rooms at your preferred longhouses. I've had a GV room in Samoa that a) looked directly down on the Volcano pool, and b) had a partial view of the lake. Not bad at all for the "cheapest" room category.

That sounds like what we had. Ours was an unobstructed view of the marina and the GF. I loved it!

To the OP, you're talking an extra $250 a night...that's a hefty jump, isn't it?

Yeppers, that's why I'm having such a hard time justifying it. I wanted to be close to the monorail but CR has no availability. I would never stay at GF again and it would probably be more expensive anyway. I will be 6 months pregnant and my patience for far walks and long bus rides will be dwindling by then.. It just seemed like a good solution. I might look into staying at an Epcot resort again... I'm still holding out hope for some discounts too!

I would definitely book a garden view room at the POLY. We were in a garden view this past March and we loved it. We were in the Samoa building on the side facing the Volcano Pool, it was great! You really can't go wrong with the garden view room's there. Looking at Tikiman's website the worst view was a room with a view of the parking lot, but, the thing is, the parking lot looked far away and the lush tropical grounds blocked most of it.

Thanks everyone, I upgraded this morning to the Poly, expecting to pay full price, but then my TA emailed me and got the discounted price, so now we are staying at the Poly for only a small amount above what POR would have been. I am thrilled!!! Thanks for all of the help.
