I just had to go gluten-free and i am currently at WDW starving to death!
I have a whole host of food allergies and one of the main ones is canola oil.
What I am seeing is that all gluten free food seems to be made with canola oil? We went to Babycakes and all the cupcakes have canola oil. All the gluten free snacks you can buy (brownies and cookies) have canola oil.

Right now I am limited to meats (chicken, beef, fish) at lunch and dinner. I have to starve all morning until restaurants open for lunch.

Is this the case with all commercially made gluten free food?
I have a salicylate allergy which precludes most fruits and veggies so I am desperate. At home I just eat 2 soft-boiled egg yolks (allergic to whites) for breakfast. I cannot get that at WDW.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am sort of looking forward to going back home. I am so sad.

Thanks.

Could you check into the turkey legs for a possible snack?

Maybe a sit-down restaurant could boil you a few eggs if you just ask for a breakfast?

Can you get off-site by taxi to shop at a store to maybe get some items that you eat at home? boiled eggs are often in the dairy case now a days.

Sorry you are not having a magical time:guilty:

Are you doing counter service or table service meals? Table service places have a lot more flexibility in terms of making special items. Also, what resort are you at? Places with large food courts (like Pop Century) might have options for you, like cheese sticks or lunch meats.

Oh, no! I'm sorry--that sounds awful. I know some places there have Amy's mac and cheese...I just went and checked one in my freezer, and there's no canola oil in that.

Canola oil is corn so it is a good substitute for many who are GF.

You might see if you could venture out for some snacks like cheese sticks or whatever works for you at a convenient store or grocery store. It might be worth your time.

But I have no suggestions--even GF cereal is probably canola oil. Man, that's tough. Keep asking at the TS meals. And maybe you should try going for sit-down breakfast. I'm sure they could help you somehow.

OP-

We're gluten free, soy free, nut/seed free, and try to avoid all veggie oils but coconut and olive. That said, we're packing a LOT of stuff with us. Things like cereal we know we can have- EnviroKidz Gorillas (like Kix) or Chocolate Rice Krispie thingies or Nature's Path Corn Flakes or O's, Rice Noodle Soup from Trader Joes (made without oil packet), Quick Cook Rice and canned beans, home-made bread, etc. We're taking a water pot (heater) to 'cook' in our room, and we're renting a car so we can go to the grocery and get milk, greek yogurt, fruit, veggies, cheese, etc. We also got Rice crackers from our health food store that are oil-free, and we're taking along rice cakes, too.

OK, now that said, ALL of the meals we're going to eat in the parks are going to be at TS places. We have sent them our allergy sheet, and have printed and laminated cards with our allergies listed. The GF Cafe called us and told us that they need to do NO advance prep for our restrictions, and the Wave called and told us they are able to work with us as well. They have rice pasta, the GF Amy's Pasta Sauce they have has no canola oil in it, the Amy's Rice Mac and Cheese doesn't have canola oil in it either. I'm pretty sure the Ener-G rolls don't have canola oil- just safflower oil. We try to avoid veggie oils, but we're making a few exceptions for one meal a day. I would just stick to salads at the CS places (use a lemon wedge as a dressing), and at the TS places tell them you don't do gluten or canola oil and they'll totally work with you. :goodvibes
