What if we get a cabin that is kind of remote, will we feel safe? Are we safe?

There are no "remote" cabins. They are all within small "circles" and all are close to bus stops easily located at the front of each circle. This is the first place we stayed as a family. It has wonderful activities to help create long-lasting family memories outside the theme park atmosphere. I recommend the hoop-de-do review, the nightly hayride or carriage ride, petting zoo, pony rides, or horseback riding. They also offer a Mickey's backyard BBQ dinner event and a nightly Chip and Dale campfire sing along and movie.

You can always access a map of the resort online and call to have a request for the cabin "circle" you prefer. Confirm this request via direct dial phone number to the resort 5 days prior to your arrival. Remember there are no guarantees.

If you need more info, let me know. You'll love it! :teeth:

Ft. Wilderness is most definitely safe. We had a golfcart break down at 1 am on a trip and we walked back to our cabin. I didn't feel unsafe in the least. The Fort is the best!

I think it is safe for the most part, but watch out because they have these 2 HUGE chipmunks that have been seen from time to time around the campground. They are supposed to be friendly, but you just never know. :teeth:

Thanks for everyone's replies!

I have been going back and forth between POR or FWC. After reading the posts here I've decided to got with FWC!

I'll watch for the chipmunks!

the chipmunks like chocolate cookies so keep them safe :rotfl:

I was actually kind of surprised how close together all of the cabins are, but it didn't end up being a problem. Still didn't hear anybody else at night.
(We did hear rustling while walking from the bus stop, but it was an armadillo. That was cool though, as we don't have them here! LOL)
But the other posters are right, there are no isolated cabins.
Have fun!

I feel very safe at FW. I go to the showers many a night after 11pm after I get the kids to bed. We are in a camper so I do have to walk and DH stays with the kids. The only thing that I get concerned about is if someone comes into the bathhouse while I am in the shower. BUT, I keep an ear out and the doors are suppose to be locked after a certain time. It concerns me a little but not enough to stop my routine.

My DS(5) and I are staying at ASM and OKW and would like to go over and see FW, can I go at night, eat dinner there and stay for campfire, or is it restricted? Any info would be great Thanks Ayne

Yes you can do that! It's alot of fun. Plan on coming for dinner, then doing the campfire and even stay for the movie if you like. Or, you can move down to the waterfront and watch the EWP and fireworks. A great time! :)

I stayed in our camper with my 5 youngest (10 and under) this summer for 8 weeks. We were in and out at all hours of the night. Never once felt scared. Hubby would come to visit some, but most nights it was just me and kiddo's. No worries!

I don't think you are any safer than any other campground or hotel. I do feel pretty safe since it is mostly families camping. I have only had one incident many years ago. I was walking to my site at night carrying my DD who was maybe 2 or 3. A man passed us on his bike yelling odd noises and then turned around and headed back toward us. I could definately tell he was mentally challenged in some way. He did scare me and i ended up going through the woods and short cutting through the bathrooms but i could hear him calling out. It only takes one time to change your routine, after that i have never walked at night alone. I do give my kids some freedom aroung the campground loops with either a 2 way radio or a cell phone on them. They are preteens now. I have never heard or read on any incidents of harm within the campground. There is also quite abit of security and maintenance driving around.

Where is the best place for dinner? And could you tell me what the EWP is Thanks Ayne :cool1:

The EWP is the Electric Water Parade. It's great! You can eat at Trail's End which is the dining hall at FW, or you can go to the Hoop Dee Do Review, which I've never been to, but people say is alot of fun. The prices can be pretty high, but it's all you can eat food, drink, and beer or sangria (I think...someone please double check me on that) and there is a show with it that involves the audience. You could also trek over to Wilderness Lodge for their food court or their restaurant. Have fun!

And, I felt very safe when we were there. Definitely maintenance trucks, etc, driving around. Always felt that the people were very safe and looking out for one another. My kids love to ride their bikes around the loop and I give them 2-way radios.

We felt safe for the most part.

We were on loop 1000. And it was very dark. There were a couple of times my wife commented on just how dark it was.

I expected to see more CM's out and about after dark. And we wished there were. The pool is open 24 hours, but with no security. So when we went Saturday night about 10:30 pm there were a couple of groups that were drinking heavily. Then on the way back to the campsite we were almost run over by a group of teens playing on the golf carts. In fact they almost flipped on coming off the bridge. We could also smell the very distinct smell of pot!!

So we didn't feel unsafe, but it could have been better.
