The problem with the Marvel properties is the fact that they are hamstrung by the "agreement" with Universal about the use in the parks. They are prohibited from using their license in the state of Florida. Not sure about DL, but no Marvel in WDW. I would love to see more E-tickets, but unfortunately they take time and huge amounts of money....I imagine the HP stuff at US/IOA have been in the drawing boards for at least five years, since that is a dated franchise, but still very popular. Give Disney some time, they just finished the Fantasyland expansion, started Avatar and are setting the stage for an increased Pixar/Star Wars presence in HS. In the next five to six years we will see Disney rise to preeminence again. The fall out from the Eisner regime is still unfolding. It takes time to undo damage like that....although not sure Eiger is the one to lead this either.

True. I wasn't suggesting that Marvel profits would fund Marvel attractions. Rather, to the extent one wants to assume that movie profits fund park projects (generically), one has to accept the fact that Marvel profits are more responsible for such capital expenditure than Frozen.

I wouldn't care about Frozen and certainly don't blame Disney for capitalizing on it but once they used it to pretty much complete the destruction of my favorite part of WS then I was done with it. The movie was only OK to me and I agree that we could easily avoid most of the Frozen stuff at the parks but I can't avoid them ruining Norway with this movie.

I just wanted to say that, as a teenager, Frozen has become the subject of jokes in the schools because Disney has put it in everyone's faces for months (I'm talking about in addition to what is happening in the parks). I liked the movie - we own it- but it's become too much of a good thing.

When we saw the castle lighting at MVMCP this past December where Cinderella and the fairy godmother, not to mention Mickey and the gang, were replaced by Frozen characters it was incredibly disappointing. The show was silly and a little lame like it was put together at the last minute (like some of the other Frozen things they've slapped together). Elsa decorating Cinderella's castle? Really?

I also think sticking Frozen into Norway in the WS is ridiculous. Just imagine if they began putting princesses and other character related attractions in all of the countries represented. World Showcase would become another MK or DS.

It's one thing to build upon the success of a movie but it's another thing to let it take over and dominate the spotlight for so long. Disney has so many other wonderful movies and characters. It's time for Frozen to take it's place among them instead of in front of them.

Frozen was definitely in your face at MVMCP this year! Even my daughter, who enjoyed Frozen and owns the movie, couldn't believe the castle lighting ceremony was taken over by Elsa and Ana. In her exact words, "Cinderella should come out of the castle and kick them off her turf!" It made her so mad that the only photo she didn't want taken during the parade was of the Frozen characters.

I can understand Disney responding to demand but to actually replace classic characters, attractions, etc. or push them into the background to continuing promoting that one movie...that's what I call "in your face"!

Here's hoping that at the very least this year's castle lighting ceremony returns to the lady who owns the real estate and her friends.

Time for a Frozen thaw!

Without question the castle is Cinderella's! Listen to what the fairy godmother says when asked in the old show about decorating the castle. She says they should ask Cinderella because "after all she lives here". Fairy godmother doesn't say that Cinderella lives in the back!

It is her castle being lit up, not the stage. We go every year during the holiday period and the previous show made sense. Cinderella said what she wanted and the fairy godmother granted her wish. Classic Disney.

Completely changing what was a MK holiday tradition is much more like sticking Frozen in my face than just seeing the merchandise everywhere. You can overlook clothes and toys but if you wanted to be there to see the castle lit this year you couldn't escape the Frozen part. How much more "in your face" can it get next to sticking Elsa and Ana on the sleigh with Santa...or worse, next to Mickey and Minnie on their float?

We've been to MNSSHP 5 times and that show has nothing to do with decorating the castle for a holiday. It's just a Halloween show that begins and ends and the castle returns to normal when it's over (the usual colored lighting). Totally different.

Can't argue whose castle it is at WDW...heck, they named it! Back and front, left side and right side, 1st floor and second, my daughter is right when she says it's Cinderella's turf!

Except at the castle lighting at MVMCP. Couldn't ignore them there!

It's one thing to place Frozen all over the parks. That can be ignored most of the time (except in Norway soon). It is sad though that some of it was done so hurriedly that it appeared a bit lame. At least little kids didn't notice.

But to take a holiday tradition involving a classic character like Cinderella and obliterate it so Elsa can use her magic to light Cinderella's castle...that's over the top! And if you want to see the castle lighting during the holidays, and who doesn't when they're in the MK, then yes, Frozen is forced upon you.

I don't think most people are questioning why Disney is doing what they're doing. That's a no brainer. The fact that some people are annoyed by all of it? Perfectly understandable, especially if they're WDW veterans. For them it's akin to the birthday cake castle. Overkill!

Agree some people are annoyed by it, but not enough that Disney is going to change any of their plans. Frozen is going in Norway as a ride and a Meet & Greet. I wish they would add the German ride and the Japan ride that were to be, and I'm okay if they are themed. The number of families that entered EPCOT while the sisters were there that would have never gone otherwise meant more dollars spent and crowds spread out. If they keep that up the more dollars might mean more investments in the parks. And if that idea all started with the sisters, glad Disney is seeing the potential for more cash.

WDW veterans ... I am one. My first visit was in 1970 before the park was open. Not local. Going non-stop since - totally lost count - 5-6 weeks a year. I saw the sisters lighting the castle, I thought is was short, well done and loved seeing Olaf - but the focus remained on the castle lighting. If you stand back enough you don't even have to watch the show just wait for the lighting.

Was just looking at my family picture in front of the birthday cake castle - nope didn't bother me. It was temporary for a celebration. As long as temporary disappears (unlike the out of proportion Sorcerer's Hat) in the short run, it's just a decoration. Anna & Elsa putting some ice on a castle for a few months, something new, not a problem for me. Now if the sisters move into the Castle for the long term, like the Hat did, I might have a problem.

I stand by my opinion that they are not in your face, easily avoided, and I honestly think that getting upset about some new characters be integrated into theme parks is "overkill."

I may mess my post up too since I only read these things and have never posted in the many years I've been reading.

You have every right to express your view and you did it very nicely. I agree with you too since we take our grandchildren to the holiday party every year. Our favorite part was watching the Cinderella's Fairy Godmother wave her wand and light the castle for Cinderella. We didn't see Frozen do we don't know the girls who did it this year so it was indeed disappointing. Everyone knows the story of Cinderella.

And your mother is correct. The entire castle belongs to Cinderella. I was amused by HopperFan's comment that only the back of the castle belongs to her. I think Mr. Disney intended for Cinderella to use both the front and back doors. I certainly hope they haven't handed over the key to that Elsa character. It will be sad if the Christmas castle lighting doesn't return to the way it was. Maybe this Frozen thing will pass, hopefully before I do.

I loathe Frozen and think it's highly overrated (when what's her name sang "frozen fractals" I was just about done lol) but I'm not going to begrudge on little kids who love it. It's a kid's movie at the end of the day and Disney, while they do have a wide array of publics, caters to kids. *shrug*

We'll just avoid the Frozen stuff in the parks. Although my mom probably won't be able to resist getting an Olaf cupcake or whatever. She's the only one in the family who's into Frozen LOL

Are Frozen characters in the parades? I'm guessing yes, although there's a wide array of characters in the parades so I think we'll be fine. It's not as if anyone is allergic to Frozen characters, you know? I doubt we'll have a problem running into a whole lot of Frozen stuff.

I'm hella disappointed I didn't get to ride Maelstrom though before they closed it for a Frozen attraction.

But oh it makes me mad when people say it's the first Disney movie centered on sisters. Hello, Lilo and Nani Pelekai anyone? They're my favorite sisters, that's for sure.

It makes me sad that so many people care so little for theming. Theming and "show" used to be paramount in the Disney parks but now it seems that they can shove anything pretty much anywhere and many are fine with it.
