My DH ordered a Ceasar salad today from a small cafe and we asked if the dressing was homemade or had raw egg in it. The waitress checked and came back and said it is not homemade, and it has egg yolk in it. Is egg yolk and raw eggs the same thing? Does anyone know?
Just curious.
Thanks-

While it would be a raw yolk in a salad dressing, if it's not homemade it's likely pastuerized which would kill any bacteria.

::yes:: Raw eggs are in mayo too. Hopefully restaurants are using pasteurized eggs in both when freshly made.:scared:

Even if the eggs are not pastuerized, Caesar dressing usually contains enough vinegar/lemon juice to actually "cook" the eggs.

If they didn't make it themselves, the eggs would have been pasturized in the process.

I only buy pasturized eggs at the Grocery Store anyway - why take a chance? We love Caesar salads, and you do have to be careful when going out.

Any commercially made and purchased product, like mayonnaise and salad dressings, are pasteurized during the manufacturing and bottling process. If not, they would go bad in the bottle loooooong before they got to your home or to a restaurant.
